: 3rd cylinder misfire

Ok, I decided to check to see if all the plugs were working to try to pin down the cause of my misfire. well when i pulled 1,2,4 cylinders wires the car ran worse. When i pulled number 3, nothing changed, so i'm guessing thats where the problem lies.

I replaced the plug and wire with my spares and same shit. number three isn't firing even though its getting spark.

when i pulled off the old plug it did smell like gas a little, but I'm guessing its the number three injector? Or maybe one of you have an idea what it could be?

Just how expensive are injectors? Can i test an injector somehow?

The injector would be my best guess. have you done a compression test? I would check to see if im getting compression first. I would also like to know how to check injectors, if you even can.

Injectors are a common failure on the Nissans .....

Where are you getting that info from? This is on SE-R.net:

"
The factory injectors are quite good and are capable of approximately 200hp. They are of the pintelless (how the hell do I spell that?) design, which means more resistance to clogging. To make a long story short, don't screw with em. Don't put a cheap injector cleaner in there, don't take them apart (you can't anyways as they are sealed at the factory),just leave em alone. There are a few companies like R.C. Engineering that claim all sorts of cool things by cleaning your injectors. The SR20DE injectors are hard to clog, are long
lasting and usually just dot break. There have been one or two people that have sent their injectors to RCE who then said they balanced them and cleaned them, the only thing RCE can really do is use ultrasound on em to clean them. I really dot think it helped, besides cleaning their injectors. I would say that if your car runs fine, doesn't hesitate (and there are lots of other reasons your SR20 could do this, blame the injectors as a last resort) dot worry about em. Plus the installation can be a bitch if you screw up the rubber seals and dot get a good fit. You will gain nothing as far as HP is concerned by fooling with your injectors if your engine is working properly to begin with or you just dot have the capability to use more
than the stock fuel flow."

I am getting that from the fact that I replace at least one late model Nissan fuel injector a week !!! Either on a Maxima , Altima , Sentra Etc. ..... Yea they are good for flow and everything , but are notorious for failing , they just quit working , so you have to replace it ......

You might want to check your Dist. cap and rotor(preferably the #3 "tower" in the cap) looks for cracks or anything out of the ordinary, mist(w/H20) the outside of the cap to see if arcing on the outside at #3 as well.(It may be getting spark, but is it strong enough-hence checking for arcing)
you can check the resistance (ohms) the inj. spec is around 12-14 ohms IIRC-check the FSM to be sure.
Nissan Injectors known for failing? that is the 1st time I have heard of that. Just give it a good whack, it'll start working
Thanks,

out of all the se-r's ive worked on, have friends with them, people that upgrade, maxima owners, altima owners....everything....ive never heard of an injector failing. now leaking is something else. but one to just quit working, i dont think ive ever heard of that.

Start the car, pull the plug off the injector. If no change in the car, you probably have a bad or clogged injector. Check the wire/plug to the injector for continuity. Compression check your motor. If all checks out fine, go to a salvage yard and get a new fuel rail. Swapping rails is easier than changing a single injector.

I have an appointment to get it fixed on monday at the nissan dealer. If its gonna be too expensive I'm gonna wind up doing it myself. Can anyone scan/email me the instructions from the 92 FSM so I can try to do it myself? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Your winng streak just ended. One of the injectors from the det is dead. Sending all 4 out to get cleaned this week. We were testing them with the new ecu on the de and it ran on 3 cylinders. The problem described above could be the same thing. To test just move the injector to a different cylinder.

I took my NX to the dealer today and they told me exactly what I thought it was: 3rd cylinder injector bad.... And they charged me 90$ for it, then they said i have to take the car back because they don't want my car sitting in their lot for a week while I wait to get it done. FU(kers. I called another shop to get it done (100$ cheaper than the 350$ estimate from Nissan). I'd do it myself but I heard its a royal pain to change an injector.

Its not. Just pull the whole fuel rail off. Eric swapped mine out testing the new ones from my det, took him about 5 minutes each time to pull the rail.

It is common for injectors to go bad on Nissan's. I personal have replaced an injector on a 240sx and a Sentra Se-r that I have owned in the past.

It was officially a shorted injector. I think ten years/140,000 miles isn't too bad a life span.
