I'm interested in this as well.

How much are those fancy Aerocatch hood pins?

I have found some locking hood pins from Serban at Go Fast Depot:

Ultra-affordable, and I'm gonna need a set for my fiberglass hood (when we get approved for the GB).

I also posted some threads on hood-pins in the Fiberglass Hood GB "interest" thread under the Classic section:

SR20RACER has a set of Aerocatch hood pins on his ride.

Yes i have already spoke with Justin, and i already have them. They costed around 110shipped.

if it were me... i would carefully cut the hole for the base to sit in, silicone the exposed cut sides on the cf hood, then slide the base in... I wouldn't drill hoes for the screws though, or use the screws at all for that matter... I would just cut a thin layer of 3M double sided and fit it carefully all around under the lip of the base.

Its actually easier then it looks.
They give you a template to cut the oval-asymetric shope for your hood. Once that is cut out, you drill hte holes for teh surrounding screws and lock them in place with the provided nuts. The Bottum part where the pins are you use existing holed in your rad suport.

I will post pix of the Rad support tomarrow.

I've seen SR20Racer's in person. They look damn nice. Very, very clean.

Just follow the instructions, take your time and you'll be fine. Don't mind the lack of grill and nasty car, that pic was taken the day after a few road racing sessions. :)

sWEET!

Have you had an problems with the aerolatches mounted that way? the latch part facing the front... can it come unlatched in the wind... i really want to get these, and seeing this thread it seems like people are very successful with them. I need to get rid of my shitty pins.

Tokes, quit being a damn noob! The aerocatch locks down and is all flush so there is no way wind can get down there.

Tokes, you wont have any issues mounting them the way I did. I have gone 145mph+ and had no problems. I feel 100% better then with my old cheapy pins that let me stock hood fly off of my car Nascar style.

I would also get the pins with the lock so no fools can just walk up and pop your hood.

Hey Bishes! I'll shiv you... I read the aerolatch disclaimer a while back... that says to mount them with the key part to the rear...

I figured I would ask though.

I was just wondering if he had any problems because I was most likely going to do it his way as well... bishes!

Operating and Installation
Top & Side Mounting Applications
120 Flush Series & 125 Plus Flush Series

Thank you for selecting the AeroCatch. The following instructions are to help you successfully install and use this unique product. The kit contains 2 AeroCatches and stud strikes, all installation fasteners, rubber bump stops and bonnet cut-out template.

Before starting please familiarise yourself with the AeroCatch. If you have the locking version make sure that it is unlocked – this is when the key opening is in line with the main axis of the AeroCatch. Depress the crescent shaped secondary lock button and the handle will pop open by about 10° (the latch mechanism is still securely locked at this point), this is called free travel and allows you to get hold of the handle and open the latch – this action pulls the shear pin clear of the stud strike. To close the latch push the handle down until it engages the secondary lock button.

The preferred AeroCatch mounting is noted below with the narrow end towards the front of the car and either into, or at a slight angle to the airflow.

Good to hear... I will look into these this winter.

I'm going to have to mount mine the same way yours are facing... since I have holes where my sparco ones are drilled into the hood.

Uh...Zerogravity, Coach, SR20RACER, XxToKeSxX, etc....

Can you gentlemen please educate me? I is posolutley ignant. My searching pulled up a few threads, but not many educated opinions. Nor anyone discussing the differences between $20.00 locking pins, and $110.00 locking pins. Seems to me that I could buy two (2) kick-ass Masterlocks for $20.00. Why are hood pins any different?

What constitutes "cheapy pins" or "shitty pins"? Where and why do they fail? Tokes, you have "Sparco" a name brand, why do they suck?

How is the pin held to the radiator support? Is it welded in place?

Why are the Aerocatch units superior? Please justify their cost to me. I certainly cannot afford a broken hood due to a pin failure. What made you guys spring for the fancy ($$$) hood pins?

And locking is a must on my DD.

Thanks for any input. :)

Cool. I just bought a set for my CF hood. Can you take some pics of the underside of the hood where the aerocatch plates are as well as some close up pics of the rad support and pins?

Thanks!

Shawn B,

Like I mentioned in my PM I had the cheaper type hood pins and my hood flew off my car. That's the reason I went with the Aerocatches, and am glad I was. The look and feel of is much better and I feel good about them not backing off.

See how these would lock better:

I just installed mine the other day!
well one of them

p11's hood curves too much above the radiator support so I had to be creative
It was time consuming but not as bad as I thought it would be
