: Strange bucking
zerosin 10-07-2007, 03:04 PM For the most part the VE swap is running great, though I think the 15 degree setting on this JWT ECU may get a change to 19 since it's a current JWT program and there seems to be a bit of power loss down low.
When I'm driving at a constant speed there is an occasional buck like the motor loses fuel for an instant and than picks back up. This usually happens in the 2-3K RPM range. If I get on it and take it up to 5k or so it goes away for a bit.
Any thoughts?
zerosin 10-07-2007, 10:23 PM Took the plug gap from .044 to .038 and set timing to 19 degrees for the JWT ECU. Not too worried about losing top end power right now. Still bucking, gonna get a new cap and rotor and probably wires too, they all have about 60k miles on them.
coach 10-07-2007, 10:33 PM Do you have a calumsult or Techtom MDM100 or something to look at duty cycles or anything like that? Any codes on the ECU? DId you miss grounds causing ignition spark issues? Could be many things.

zerosin 10-07-2007, 10:48 PM Just an Actron OBDII scanner. It shows a freeze frame with fuel trim, temp, speed, RPMs.
The only engine codes I have are for no rear O2 and a P1400 for EGR.
All my grounds are connected. I noticed that the B15 was using a separate power (B/R wires) to the injectors pairing them up. The VE had just one power so I stuck with that.
t bags 10-07-2007, 11:09 PM whats ur v at idle on the inj?fp?
zerosin 10-08-2007, 09:59 AM I'm going to check the injectors today after work, since the issue is reproducible in neutral I should see something. I have a fuel pressure gauge, just haven't installed it yet because the T didn't fit my injector hose.
eric96ser 10-08-2007, 10:15 AM What gear?
Andreas Miko 10-08-2007, 10:21 AM This problem sounds like the timing issue that JWT has.
Have you set the TPS yet and if you have not put it at .48 when the engine is hot so set it once the fans have come on and shut off.
zerosin 10-08-2007, 10:32 AM What gear?
All of 'em. Seems to happen up in the 3k range too.

Haven't yet. I'll give that a try, thanks.

Sweet, waited almost six weeks to run like this.
Calum 10-08-2007, 10:41 AM Borrow El Gabito's ecu and see if the problem disappears. IIRC his is programmed for the same setup: B14 DE maf, VE inj, stock VE cams.
eric96ser 10-08-2007, 10:43 AM The fix. :)

Um, yea I saw that last night and darn near spit my beer out. If only that was around 2 months ago.
Michigan is in the Goldie Locks zone for that ECU.

Thanks for the heads up.

I lived with that issue for almost 4 years. Once Calum found that timing zone and fixed it with mine, it was night and day.

Seein' if I can try that one out.
zerosin 10-08-2007, 11:12 AM I lived with that issue for almost 4 years. Once Calum found that timing zone and fixed it with mine, it was night and day.
Is Calum's timing zone pretty close to the JWT one you linked to?
eric96ser 10-08-2007, 11:17 AM No, I think that timing is more aggressive than what I'm running. We changed mine to more like what a stock VE ECU has. I should be getting some new chips to try out soon, and they will have a better timing curve than what I have now.
