: Suspension "pop"??
92nx2k 07-06-2002, 10:34 PM ok. heres the deal. I have been hearing this god-awful popping sound, whenever i take turns, or go over bumps. i had the tierods/axels/steering boots and whatnot checked. everything looks okay there. so, i figure its gotta be suspension. i narrowed it down to the front swaybar, cause whenever the wheels become uneven because of suspension travel, i hear the noise (bumps, and turns). someone tell me if im way off here.....i replaced the swaybar end links, and the bushings on the bottom of it. but, i noticed that, on the endlinks, on my driver side, i had 2 bushings, one on the top of the control arm, and one on the bottom(where the endlink bolt goes through), and on my passenger side, i only had ONE bushing. on the bottom side of the control arm. i thought nothing of it at the time...eager to see if the end links had fixed the problem, and they havent. could this be something i definately need to put on? could it be my big POPPING noise? thanks alot...

sr20ser 07-07-2002, 02:47 AM I had the same problem with my 91NX2K. I checked the steering, axles, etc. no probs. Still had the pop. I took it to a shop, they said "No problems". Well I took a look again, and saw a tiny (5mm) slit in my CV boot. Had another shop look, and sure enough it was a bad CV joint. Try that
corbendallas 07-07-2002, 03:37 AM Also, check the sway bar link.
My Classic's front end made terrible popping noises due to worn strut thrust bearings. Replacing those did the most for me. YMMV.
Here's a thread that might help you:

92nx2k 07-07-2002, 01:41 PM my struts and springs are relatively new...i replaced the end links already, and i personally examined my axles. i had an inner axle boot torn, and replaced the axle already. any other ideas?
madmoney 07-07-2002, 07:18 PM could be wheel bearings, i would have them checked. but ti sounds alot like a cv joint,, have both axles been replaced? u can do the raplacement your self. and dont just replace the cv itsself its harder and more expencive so just get a new axle if thats the case. if only one was replaced its most likely the other side.
hope this helps

MaddMatt 07-07-2002, 08:25 PM O.M.G! This could be the clunking I keep hearing. I was just gonna turn up the radio and say "F$%k it. It's the coilovers!"
OK, info time. How do I test the ball joints??? I keep getting a clunk on the left side when I turn to the right, about mid corner right when I get onto the gas at the apex. I have replaced the drivers axle recently and the GC plates and associated bearings up top are fresh.
92nx2k 07-08-2002, 12:42 AM i dont have coilovers ***...lol. next....?
Fonque 07-08-2002, 01:33 PM i had the exact same problem goin over bumps and on turns, I had a bad bushing on the swaybar endlink on the driver side which allowed the end link to bang against the control arm when ever the driverside wheel had any kind of suspension travel, and its quite an obnoxious sound, scared the shit outta me the first few times i heard it.
and if you said you are missing a bushing that would probably be it. control arm is not supposed to be able to move up and down against the endlinks. and make sure everything is torqued properly if the bottom nut on the end link is too loose you'll get the same obnoxious noise
hope that helps
SpacemanSpiffNF 07-17-2002, 06:35 PM I had the exact same problem with mine, and someone else that I know had the same problem. What happened with mine and the other guys was on the sway bar link (I think thats what they're called) the washer slipped up over the nut, allowing the link to move freely back and forth and knock against the "control arm" going to the wheel and making a loud knock or pop when going around corners. All you need is a new washer, put it in below the nut, and your problem's solved.
92nx2k 07-19-2002, 08:43 PM WOOHOO! energy suspension rocks! urethane bushings for the swaybar...not only fixed the problem...but significantly stiffened the front end. i strongly recommend these bushings to anyone!
Fonque 07-20-2002, 09:33 PM how much you pay for them? i was thinkin abotu getting them but i might just wait and save up for the whole bushing kit
92nx2k 07-21-2002, 12:06 AM the whole bushing kit is 126 bucks and is definately not worth it. i paid 8 dollars and change for mine but i know some people.
