Okay ive done way too much archive searching and found almost nothing. I've got a 99 SE-L and i just got the ES inserts, i guess there just for two of the mounts. Here are the questions:

1) I have one oval'ish insert and one small circle insert i am assuming these are for the "front of the car" dogbone thingy. The other two inserts are big circles with lumps on the inner side. Would those be for the "Back of engine" firewall mount?

2) Which mount should i install first and where should i jack the engine up from. Ive heard of people using wooden blocks on a stock jack under the oil pan but i've always heard that its never a good idea to jack up using your oil pan. Also do i need to put another jack under the tranny somewhere. Im going to be doing this install mostly alone (girlfriend to grab tools and what not) and i **** be safe (not droping the engine on my self now)

3) Do i need to do anything with that liquid filled "passanger side mount"?

4) Whats all this i hear about a hydrolic-press, ive heard you need it for the passanger side liquid mount, and ive heard by one person i will need the press for the front of car mount. Whats the over concensise(spelling?) on this?

5) Anything else i am forgetting? Btw, im am confused as hell by all this front mount, side mount crap because it all depends on FWD or RWD orientation so i never know what people are talking about.

Thanks guys! And yes i did search the forum.

Hmmm, not only can you find more information on this site, but also on the SE-R mailing list. But, not matter.

Do the dogbone mount first. Yes, it will be a bitch to get the new inserts in, but it's not as difficult as some people have made it out to be. Soak your new inserts(dogbone) in boiling water for about 1 minute. They'll still be stiff, but you'll be able to manipulate them better. Spray the inside of the mount liberally with rubber friendly "whatever". Someone has actually just used soap and water, I used Lithium grease. You do have to press hard, but you shouldn't need to use a vise or press.

I don't know about your model year, I have a '91 Classic, but getting the firewall inserts back in and aligning the bolt hole is a 2 person job. You'll need at least 3 hands to manipulate the jacks, the inserts, and the bolt.

Yes, you can use the oil pan to lift. Just make sure you have a board that covers the entire pan to distribute the lift force. Do not over lift on this though... there are some things that can be bent or broken above the oil pan if you lift too high.

Having a jack under the tranny can help. Both of these are going to be used to manipulate the position of your mount so that you can get the bolt hole lined up. Use a phillips head screwdriver in the bolt hole. Once it passes cleanly through the mount and to the other side, you're ready to try the bolt. Be very careful, it is easy to misalign the bolt and strip the threads.

If you would like more information, try doing a search on the SE-R mailing lists. Look for Rick Zotz's information.

Later,
Mark

Okay all done, and let me tell ya that was a job and a half. getting the dogbone out was not prob but putting the ES buffer in was a pain in the ass. I had to push down really hard and have my girlfriend take a c-clamp to it and squeze it down in there. That took about 1hour to do, then we decided to go after the firewall mount and shifter bushing(yummy). Well i decided to take out the entire cross member and that went just fine. Getting the inserts in wasn't that bad, i didn't have to shave anything like everyone else says. How ever with the inserts on its a bitch and a half to get back on the engine mount. For the shifter bushing i could remove the freaking braked(the two little nuts are torqued to 113ft-lbs) so i just cut off the orig bushing and slid on the new ones. Now i spent the next 5 hours trying in vain to get the pivot bolt back on the firewall mount with the es inserts in. My god did that take a lot of pushing. I had to have my gf insert the bolt while i pushed on the crossmember with everything ive got. My arms hurt so freaking bad now from laying on my back for 5hours pushing like a mofo. Well just getting the bolt in is half the work, getting it to go in the thread on the other side is just as hard. Well finaly it went in and we torqued everything back to spec and fired her up. Well not much difference, the engine doesn't rock at all and there is some vibration. But its not very noticable execpt when starting and when first accelerating. There is some rattle but not much. And the idle doesn't induce much rattle either. However on the street i get a little foot massage from the peddles :) Overall that was a very physical job. Not very hard but very demanding on ones body. The job is not doable with one person for the firewall mount, however the dogbone can be done alone. Also the shifts are a little more solid. Well im not sure i would go through all the trouble if i didn't have a torn mount, but it was a good experiance.

Glad you made it. Having someone else insert the bolt is a plus... you better buy her dinner. My shoulder and neck hurt for a week after that. There is some extra vibration, but for me, it is hardly noticeable.

Congrats,
Mark
