I had a strange thing happen to my f-max manifold last night. While tuning the the manual boost controller last night, all of a sudden my car started pissing out a crazy exhaust leak.

It turned out that the tial 35mm was held on by only 1 of the 2 nuts on the f-max manifold !

Upon close inspection one of the studs in the manifold must have somehow unbolted itself loose ! Absolutley crazy, it did not break off, but unbolted itself out, I was able to use a bolt with the same thread pattern to replace the stud. I was very lucky the stud did not break off and that I didn't loose the tial wastegate.

Anyone who has taken of the wastegate off the manifold on the car knows how much FUN I had last night...

Thought I would share and to see if anyone had anything similar happen.

Do you dump to the atmosphere or reroute back to the downpipe? The vibration from the Tial could have been the reason why it worked itself loose. It has happened to me before.

The wastegate dumps to the atmosphere. I also had a dumptube attached to it. I removed the tube hoping it will take some strain off the wastegate.

will it make a difference i the wastegate dumps to the atmosphere or into the downpipe?

It's a vibration issue. The Vibration is usually less when the WG is attatched to the dump tube leading to the downpipe. Which acts like a stabilizer for the Wastegate.

If you are going to re insert the studs, then make sure you use lock tite. Make sure you use lock tite on the nuts as well. You may want to look into putting lock washers on as well.

Like Mike Collins said, the vibration created while driving can easily back off studs/nuts.

Lock tight works very well, sometimes too well. In a tight space like the wastegate area make sure everything is correct when you put it on. IE don't forget the gasket. Because when it comes time to take it off you are gonna have some fun.

just use some all metal locknuts on that son of a bitch, and it will never happen again. Good luck!

thanks for all the suggestions gentlemen. I ended up using loctite on that biatch.
