: St. Louis, Missouri????
Jackson Diamond 10-17-2007, 10:04 PM I am in the process of interviewing for a position in the St. Louis area. Now my question is, is this a cool city? Fun? What is there to do? I will be there in a week talking to the company, and looking around. I don't know if I will have time to hang out but I will try to schedule some.
Give me a brief view of this city and opinions....
I have lived in the Milwaukee area all my life and this looks like a comparable city
Thanks.
.........
Oh and the car will be moving with me. :biggthump
Black98SeR 10-17-2007, 10:45 PM Coming from the northern illinois/ madison area myself I can kind of fill you in. The weather is very different, especially in the summer. It can get very humid down here, and it may start raining at a moments notice.
The city itself is very cool, and it has a large amount of stuff to do. If you want to live in the "hip" part of the city try out the central west end. Stay away from north county and south county. The St. Charles Missouri/ O'Fallon Missouri area is really starting to to "boom" population wise. They are currently trying to "revamp" the downtown area, and they have some fairly decent deals on lofts. Not sure if I would live down there though, as St. Louis is always ranked in the top 5 for the worst cities (murders, rapes, etc). The outer areas are nice though.
My fiance and I live right off of 55, in Illinois. It takes her ~15-20 minutes to get to work. It's a straight shot, as she just takes 64/40 right in. Make sure to ask them about the upcoming construction. There is a huge 64/40/170 road construction project coming up.
The local ski area is more of an ice rink, so make sure to add spikes to your snow board. :) There are a lot of local clubs, and track wise there is gateway. The car scene down here is fairly large, and it can be a lot of fun at times. There are tons of clubs, and a large night life.....if you're into that. My fiance and I frequent forest park, various theatres, the hill (italian area), etc. There's the normal baseball, hockey, football games, etc.
If you have any other questions hit me up. Which company, if you don't mind me asking?
b13magoo 10-17-2007, 11:30 PM And like Milwaukee we have a huge brewery...lol Anheiser/busch lol. I was born and raized in the city. Moved when i was 17. I still like to go up there and we would love to have another SR member here. Especialy your car...lol.

The company is Continential AFA, located in St. Peters.
Fosters 10-18-2007, 08:31 AM For housing, you will want to look around the St. Peters/St. Charles County area. Twisted200 (Chris) lives North of O'Fallon, MO.
That area is pretty "hot" like Joe stated. Very heavy construction, and a good thing for you is that our housing market is very slow - so homebuilders are trying to get rid of units. I don't know if you will find many lofts in that area which is mostly 1/4 acre single family area.
From Downtown, it is probably 45 minutes to St. Peters. Overall, I can't really complain about the Metro area. The actual City of St. Louis is typical of most big cities (crime, etc), but it has nice areas. We do have emissions for some vehicles. Chris realized if he lived in Lincoln County that he wouldn't have emissions for his turbo B14.

twisted200ser 10-18-2007, 07:47 PM If you have allergies do not move here. Housing is decently prices esp right now. I wouldnt live downtown myself but I also wouldnt move as far out as I am now. I am 50 min from downtown. Look in the OFallon, Wentzville, or St charles area. Where are you going to be interveiwing at?

95200sxserboost 10-19-2007, 07:08 AM I grew up in St.Peters, and it is pretty nice. It is one of the more upper-middle class areas in STL. I enjoyed it growing up. Now I live in South County, closer to the ghetto, and can't complain much. The furthest I would recommend is O'Fallon, MO. VERY NICE area. Hope all works out with your interview. Thanks KEN.

Jackson Diamond 11-01-2007, 08:09 AM Well, I will be coming down for a weekend to look at housing and work out the details of the offer.
I think it will be over the weekend of Nov. 10th and 11th.
I will have a realitor to show me around... anyone want to meet up?

I should be able to meet up to BS and grab something to eat that weekend. Depending on my wife's schedule, I'll probably have my little co-pilot with me so we'd have to keep it PG. ;) Plus I'm getting old, so you'd have to have one of the younger guys show you the night life. :D
I don't know St. Peters that well, but I'm not too bad once I'm back into STL County.
Josh
Black98SeR 11-01-2007, 10:15 AM I would be down for meeting up. I'm sure the fiance might be interested in doing something too.
b13magoo 11-01-2007, 08:21 PM Im usually in for something like this. St Pete is a pretty dam long way for me ..lol. Mabye up around Manchester and 270?
gomba 11-02-2007, 02:44 AM Congrats on the job! BTW, if you don't mind me asking, what is your profession?
add another great b14 to the area. awesome! ;) St Louis is slowly becoming a pretty big SE-R region.
I wanna see a race. Twisted vs JDiamond :deal:
afaik we have or will have 3 turbo cars in the area: JDiamond, Twisted, and JokerGrin. I think we also have 2 VE cars: Fosters and another guy(Thought I remember reading a post about another person around here having a VE).

Thanks, although I havent signed on the dotted line yet...
I am looking forward to seeing St. Louis and what it has to offer. Coming from Milwaukee it looks to be alot like my home. So hopefully I will like it. Although my true passon is snowboarding it dont think STL gets the snow MKE does, I will make due.
I will be coming into SLT on the weekend of the 10 and I will have a rental car to myself so I can meet where ever. I will be going downtown and checkin out the St. Charles, St. Peters area for places to live. Other than that I want to head down to Hidden Valley and see what that hill looks like.
And as for a race between me and twisted..... theres gonna be alot of wheelspin and smoke, and the actual race may start at the top of fourth gear.... :biggthump
Lookin forward to meeting everyone and see the SERCA guys again.

The cars have to be driven to be raced - your car probably competes with mine for Most Time Spent in Garage. :D
Our newspaper has a Real Estate section on Fridays, and they were profiling some Lofts close to downtown today. It made me remember your loft, but these are a little too far away from your job.

Black98SeR 11-02-2007, 04:09 PM With the 40/64 highway project he would probably want to stay out closer to his job anyways. Once that starts getting through St. louis and down town is going to be a nightmare.
Jackson Diamond 11-08-2007, 08:01 PM Anyone open Sat. Night?
Late dinner maybe some drinks?
