: US Buildings?
yodders 10-19-2007, 01:45 AM anyone ever seen the comercial for US buildings?? curious if anyone has one or seen one in person, im about to get a house and i want to build me a shop in the back, planning on putting in a lift and everything in it, just was looking at these cause they are air plane hanger style, they dont have any posts in the middle and looks like the are pretty tall in the middle, which would be ideal for a lift, but to get a price quote or anything on the website you gonna fill out a bunch of stupid crap and im sure they gonna email me with stuff i dont want lol, just wanna know a honest opinion on the quality and what you actually think of it :)
yodders 10-22-2007, 07:33 PM no one huh lol
swiss 10-22-2007, 09:13 PM My parents have a lot of land and I thought about the same thing. They are pretty affordable, but as with anything, it will be more than you think. Land prep, slab pouring, and wiring would probably more than double the cost of the building itself.
I found some forums where they were discussing them when I was looking. IIRC, they usually ran $8-15,000 all said and done.
nsusammyeb 10-23-2007, 02:11 PM I would just build a pole barn style garage, still would not have braces in the center. the trusses hold everything together basically w/ maybe 3 I beams depending on the size of it. The ceiling could be made plenty high for a lift. You can even put a steel roof on it with those clear caps at the ridge to let in natural light. Right price i might travel down and build it for you...;)
Yahnozha 10-25-2007, 12:11 AM do a search for metal buildings, they are all pretty much the same, but be prepared for the cost of the cement slab you gotta pour. Some of the dealers have closeout specials, heck even craigslist has some if you look hard enough.
Personally, to do this on the cheap and over time. Pour pilings for the support posts, then buy just the steel frame and roofing, set that up. From there you can do a regular pour for the floor, then frame up the walls.
nsusammyeb 10-25-2007, 09:59 AM exactly, pole barn style, super simple, and stout.
you looking to put electric and water in it? insulation??
Bowlcut 10-25-2007, 11:34 AM dad looked into various types of buildings. the pole barns are fine and cheap if you dont midn the look. since its kinda a sore thumb on the land sometimes people dont like them. but for a huge place you can get one for like under 20k. Dad was looking at like 30'x50' size and it was cheaper than wood for sure, but kinda ugly... but hey its a workshop right
yodders 10-28-2007, 01:48 AM well im not to worried about the slab since my uncle will do it for me at just the cost of the materials, and it cant look like crap, not that it would bother me really but my future wife wouldnt like it and i get to hear her bitch enough as it is.......it will have electrical for sure since i need it for lights and tools, insulation i think will depend, the place we are looking at the neighbors are pretty close so i think i would do it for sound deadening cause if i wanna go work on my car at 12am i dont wanna keep everyone awake, but i got plenty of time to think about it, im more worried about finding a b14 like i want, the ones i find that are close to me are either over priced or have something wrong with the body/frame or they have been over neglected to the point its not even worth a project car
MaddMatt 10-30-2007, 12:53 PM I would just build a pole barn style garage,
I did exactly this. It has so far turned out FANTASTIC. 1100 sq ft, 3 bay, 10ft ceiling. Bought a kit from Hansen Pole Building, and it's a carriage house style barn, complete with cupola. The weathervane on it is an antique car (duh!)
I'll post pics when I get them. I did a lot of checking, and this is just about the most square feet for the $$$. After it's all done, it'll end up being between $25-$30/sqft.
