: Pipe on top of cam cover??

Curious.

Cam cover has two breather ports. one on the top on the chain side, and one on the side on the distributer side...

I've removed the stock oil/air tank and fitted an aftermarket oil/air breather can...

I'm curious about the breather port on the top of the cam cover, it goes into a metal "Y" peice, then taps into the intake manifold (top of runners) on each end of the manifold.

What is the purpose of this port / outlet on the top of the cam cover (has threaded fitting and goes into manifold).

What is it for, do I need it, can I alter it. The pipes that it splits into and enters the manifold, can a vac reading be taken from these two ports?

I can draw on an engine bay picture if no one understands me :)

Ummm. I was thinking about yanking off that crap.. and running a line from the top breather port of the cam cover, across to T-up with the other breather port, to also go into my oil/air seperator can. (UNLESS it has a major purpose being tapped into the manifold).. is it perhaps used to warm up the manifold for cold starts, or....)

Thank you

Sounds like that is where the PCV valve is supposed to go.

Righto then, looks like I shouldn't be removing it. Hrmmm but cant I route it to my oil/air can?

Could I retain the PCV valve (tapped into cam cover) and remove the pipes, and run a line from the PCV to my oil/air seperator tank? with my other breather port on the cam cover??

Or does it absolutely require the manifold vac to draw out the vapours? hrmm its so damn ugly, might modify it and hide some of it or something

i had to remove mine to clear my I/C piping. i just ran a tube from one to the other, is that dangerous?? do i need a catch can??

Your i/c piping? what the...

I'm talking about the PCV (its at the back of the cam cover, port on top, threaded port, right there with the intake...above the oil filter. Not the ugly black box on the front of the engine.

I don't think what you've done is dangerous, but which one have you removed? hrmmm.

I'm trying to dress up the engine bay a bit, neaten it up, and I want to gank out as much crap that isnt required, as possible.

I want to plumb the PCV into my oil/air seperator, instead of into the manifold, however it seems the valve uses the manifold vacuum to operate properly, I can only asume that with out the vac reading, the pcv wont work properly (might not open/close as required)...

Hrmmmm. I might have to just clean up the connectors, and pipe work, etc... shame.

Can you guys have a look at these pics, and tell me if the way I have it setup is okay?

Thanks dudes!

the one they removed is the ugly black box on the front of the valve cover. they ran a tube in it's place. could this affect VAC?

I don't think that will affect VAC.

The PCV valve is on the otherside of the cam cover. at the top on the timing chain side.. its a threaded peice that screws into the cam cover. I'm curious about this :)
