: Upgraded to AD22VF brakes, do I need a new MasterCylinder?

I installed the NX2000 brakes without a problem. While browseing some sites I read that you have to change the Master Cylinder also. Is this required? I drove the car with the new brakes and they feel ok.

No, you don't have to change the MC. Its a matter of preference, I believe they swap MC's just to get the brakes proportioned differently.

No need to change MC, I believe. Ask BlackB13 (Steve) he recently upgraded his Classic to AD22 and a DET.

Completely optional.
SCC's take on this (Kojima's too IIRC), and i concurr as well, is any additional pedal mush can be cured w/ good bleeding and some stainless brakelines. Sure you can achieve a slightly better f/r balance but cost/benefit really doesn't add up. The fronts still lock first (safer)
Now if yer runnin a DET or VE on a road course regularly then it might be worth it. At that point *** i would be lookin at even bigger aftermarket; fixed calipers, 4 piston, etc.

I've got ~a 1.5 years of autocross and track schools with NX brakes and stock SE-R MC. No complaints, couldn't be happier.

how much bigger are the nx2000 brakes from the se-r? is it worth it and how much dose it cost 2 swap?

they are very beefy. and lets just say.. your stock 14 wont fit. hehe.. unless you do some grinding.

its would be about 150-200 with core exchange. im saying its this much because you will need the NX rotors prefferably the ones with abs. because they are thicker i believe at least 3mm.

uh..but its probably one of the upgrades you can do for the money

Will using the NX MC bring the pedal back up to where it was before the swap? (It's only about a quarter inch difference, perhaps due to the larger volume of the AD22VF calipers).

You can adjust the amount of play the brake pedal has, this may take care of the difference you feel. After I adjusted the slop out of my brake pedal, I couldn't be happier with the feel.

It depends on whether you trail brake or not. I have found that the brake bias moved ever so slightly to the front, which means the rear is slightly more difficult to rotate when trail braking. This may be cured by switching to a more aggressive pad in the rear or by switching the master cylinder or even by upgrading to a larger rear caliper/rotor.

I'm running AD22 on my classic SE-R with my stock MC and it works fine. Huge difference in stopping.

I never changed the MC on my SE-R. Never had a problem, either on the street or on the roadcourse. However, I have head that pedal effort with the NX MC would be a bit less than the SE-R. I wouldn't know for sure though.

Pedal feel and modulation CONTROL of threshold braking is actually a bit better with the smaller diameter plunger of the stock MC. Pedal effort is supposed to be actually higher with the bigger MC. Having done it, personally would like a bit more at the rear than stock, have heard doing a 92 or so Maxima SE caliper and the 10.2" rear abs NX rotor helps (a straight bolt-on), but I notice Matt et. al. at Carbotech don't do the Bobcats for that particular caliper and I'm WAY too happy with those pads. Sigh.
