I just noticed that the dash around the defroster vent has seperated from the backing. I figure I could buy some epoxy and glue back but I can't figure out how to remove the defroster cover. I wanna get this done while it's still hot as hell outside and the dash is pliable. Does anyone have any suggestions???

Thanks

Well I can tell you kind of what Ford does for the Contour dash warp recall (we have a major problem with this). Ok for starters they obviously remove the dash. The they rivet the material on the leading edge back to the dash frame. After that is complete they take a black piece of molding and place it between the leading edge (where the dash meets the window) and the window. This strip looks like a thin weather stripping and is hardly noticable. Its purpose is to cover the rivets. The problem with doing the rivet method is you have a chance of having a wavey dash. I would imagine you have to take your time and use a lot of rivets. Most Ford techs don't take their time and are probably trying to save the .20 cents on the job by spacing the rivets a little further apart then they should be.

You might be able to find more information on Contour.org (http://www.contour.org). Check out the message boards and do a search for "dash warp" or "dashwarp". A lot of people have experienced stuff like that over there. Obviously we are lucky cause we got it fixed or replaced due to a recall. You might have better luck replacing the whole dash.

The dash on my 92 SE-R is warped in a similar way too. I wonder how many other Classic SE-Rs are suffering the same thing........

My buddy is on that contour list. He has a 99 SE sport with a manual, closest to an SVT he could get withought slapping the mega dough down. His SN is North something I think. We are from Traverse City, MI. Nice contour, but I think you should have a B13 SE-R!!!!!!!!!!

I will tell you how I fixed mine, it has been fine for about two weeks now.

-Remove the defrost vents (just pop them out)
- Where your dash if pulling away, apply some Permatex Weatherstrip adhesive let it dry for 5 minutes so it will become tacky (its in an orange tube at autozone $2.99)
-wedge a 2 1/2 ft long 2"X4" in between the dash and the windshield (this will keep the dash pressed down (let it set for about an hour).
-remove the 2x4 and put your defrost vents back in.
