: Anti-freeze + Oil= bad things?

I have heard of having Anti-freeze in your oil but I have never heard of having oil in your anti freeze. Is this oil I am seeing or am I mistaking? I tried to search here and se-r.net but couldn't find anything. If I am moving @30mph+ my car seems ok but if I am driving slower than that my car starts to overheat. I can rev it up turn off the AC and turn on the heat and it cools down pretty quick. My car seems to get so hot that the AC starts to blow warm. My coolant level is good and I have recently topped it off and added 2 bottles of Water Wetter. Now my over flow bottle is all brown and if swish it around I can see some brown spots in there. (kinda like oil in water). It is over 100 degrees in SLC and this is starting to suck. I can handle driving without AC but I don't want to overheat my car and be stuck in traffic. C'mon you Nissan fanatics give me the answer. (or at least point me in the right direction)

Sorry, it's bad news. You have a blown headgasket or worse. Good luck. Check your compression.

Cheers,
Charlie :)

I posted a couple of days ago about my car being slow under 4000 rpm could this head gasket be part of the problem?

I would think it's the result of a problem. It would be odd for it just to go on its own. Did it oveheat?

Charlie :)

Overheating will do it. Also, over time antifreeze becomes more and more acidic and WILL eventually eat through the head gasket if you don't keep the antifreeze fresh. I change mine once a year whether I think it needs it or not. Other times cars like the Noen will be so poorly constructed or designed, they'll blow their gaskets just to piss you off.

My car came close to overheating but actually didn't, If I do a compression test will the results tell me anything, and what about a JUN metal head gasket? My car does have 107K on it so I expect shit to start giving out now.

Try a coolant pressure test. See if it holds pressure. If it drops you know it's going somewhere. A compression test would tell you which cylinder is leaking because it would give you a noticeably lower number. I don't think it's that common for headgaskets to go at 107k miles. I personal have not seen very many Nissan's blow headgaskets unless they're old school.
