: help w/ exhuast size
i am in the process of looking for a exhuast for my nx. i found that magnaflow makes a pretty good looking one for a decent price. the only thing is i dont know what dimensions the muffler should be. heres the link to the site http://www.magnaflow.com/03cat-back/03aluminized/03aluminized.htm if any one has this muffler already could you please tell which one you have. THANKS A LOT latters ;)
NismoPC 07-14-2002, 09:11 PM You should be able to go with the following mufflers:
Magnaflow offset/center aluminized oval
11254 - 2.00" in/out
11255 - 2.25" in/out
11256 - 2.50" in/out
You won't want to go any bigger diameter piping on a NA SR20DE. This muffler should be able to fit under the rear without any issues.
NOTE: I havent had my '91 NX2000 for over a year so I am going by memory that the 18" can will fit under the rear without any prob's.
I have the MagnaFlow SS #14255 and love it. The sound is deep, mellow and the quality of the muffler is exceptional. Go to www.bigexhaust.com They have the best online prices for Magnaflow that I could find.
SHIZZLE 07-15-2002, 02:08 AM Hey Brandon, thanks for that info. I was actually gonna come to you and ask you directly towards this.
NATURAL81 is a buddy of mine and has been asking me the same kind of info. What we need to know, is, where can we get mandrel bends? We tried looking for a muffler shop that would do it but not with much luck. I tried to do a search and read that Summit Racing did them but couldn't find the exact parts.
Appreciate the help! :D
NismoPC 07-15-2002, 08:50 AM You can try:
JEGS
http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ProductDisplay?prrfnbr=1327&prmenbr=361
or
JCWhitney (This is the stainless piping)

I went with 2.25" stainless crush bent, but the guy did such a great job on the bends they are almost as smooth as mandrel. He used the largest arches he had available when doing the bends.
To do a cat-back DIY mandrel, I believe you will need some straight piping, 2 - 90 degree bends and 3 - 45 degree bends.
coach 07-15-2002, 09:34 AM You can get all sorts of mandrel bends at www.summitracing.com. They sell Hooker, magnaflow, dynomax and their summit brand mandrel bends. The Ultraflow is a stainless straight through muffler and has more flow than the magnaflow ss. It costs $99 and a ton of guys are using them with a thrush glasspack and a high flow cat. Something to look into.

Hmm? Were did you get that info? The Magnaflow SS is a straight through design as well. It is 18" long, which is 2" shorter than the longest Ultraflow offered which makes it easier to install under the NX. You should be able to use all the factory mounting points with it and it will be quieter than the UltraFlow you have due to the longer can. I will assume you are using the shorter 14" Ultraflow which would be louder. And the flow is probably the same exact amount.
Oh, and the Magnaflow SS is only $71.40. That's for an all stainless muffler.
It all comes to personal preference and what you feel is the best all around muffler as well as pricing. You'll get alot of different views on this!
thanks you guys. i going to look into these places. appreciate the info. just hope my headers come in soon. thats the final piece.
nismopc, i was looking into those sites that sell mandrel bent tubing. and i was wondering if you knew if those pipes have to be custom cut to fit the car, then weld in other piping to fill in the rest of the spots were the pipes dont connect.
cossieturbo 07-18-2002, 02:45 AM Hey blokes. A little info... an 18" can will not fit under the NX. The HKS for the Classic uses an 18" can and the factory NX uses a 14" can. I purchased an HKS Classic exhaust to see if it could be retro fitted... aaaaaaaahhhh, nope!!! Not going to happen so I sold it. :( Here are the proper Dynomax part #s to fit the NX (all offset and center).
2" 17281
2.25" 17282
2.5" 17283 (I have one of these new in the box. selling it soon. going with 2")
Dynomax = 800-767-3966
Hope this helps.

coach 07-18-2002, 09:21 AM If you buy two 90 deg mandrel bends, they have a slip fitting and a shop will add the extra pipe needed and weld it all together. I have done it this way on many vehicles and it works great. The only pipe that will be bent by the shop is the over axle pipe and that is suck a slight angle that you will hardly notice and the crush bends won't effect your flow. Summit sells aluminized stainless bends and most shops use aluminized stainless piping, you can't polish it but who cares really? It still looks good and your muffler and tip can be polished stainless.

Thanks for the info. I could not remember if it would fit or not. I knew the Classic's, SE's and G20's would be ok with the 18", but could not remember the NX.
1BAD_NX 07-18-2002, 10:33 PM Since we're on the subject here, what size resonator and cat are you guys using?
Nick
coach, does the shop were you do this at hit you up for more cause its more custom work being done. how much do think it would be with me buying the piping and then have it welded on. :( and thats all i need done . i got the cat. and i know which muffler i want.do you guys think it would be cheaper for me just to get the whole piping done at a shop who does mandrel.
