It's about my buddy’s car, he’s currently in Iraq. I’m taking car of it.
When I went to pick it up and bring it to my place the car was fine, about 75 miles into the trip on the highway the A/C went out. About an hour later I pulled over to get dinner. That’s when I noticed the “grinding” noise. It sounds like it’s coming from the area of the pullies. The car has a new water pump so I don’t think it’s that. Could it be the compressor?
I was wondering if you could help me diagnose it. Any thoughts?

dose it change or go away as you turn the ac on and off?

also you could try taking the belt off the ac and starting it up to see if it goes away

Nope. Same sound when I have it on or off.
I could try the belt idea...

Is the belt tight? If you can loosen the belt and see if the AC pulley spins freely or not. Sounds like a compressor. Hard to say though.
