: The sensor connected to the stock air box........
metro_se-r 07-15-2002, 02:34 AM .......what exactly does it do?
I just put in a custom made CAI on my car, and this is the only sensor that I left out disconnected. Of course now my check engine light stays on. What exactly is that little sensor used for? Do I really need it?
Anyone who knows the answer please help...........it would be greatly appreciated.

Texasbangerz 07-15-2002, 05:43 AM the only sensor i can think of is the sensor that is attached to the MAF...you need that sensor hooked up...
NismoPC 07-15-2002, 07:29 AM Air Temp Sensor. It needs to be located near the filter. I am not familiar with the CAI installs, but I have mine installed on the end cap of my K&N cone filter. I had to modify the filter for it.
Go here:

metro_se-r 07-15-2002, 03:20 PM So does it regulate anything? How necessary is it?
bl200sx 07-15-2002, 04:31 PM Yeah, what this sensor does, is it reads the temp inside the intake and sends this info to the ECU, you can tie wrap this sensor to something in the engine bay (like a wire or some harness near the intake) and should work fine.
98sr20ve 07-15-2002, 04:43 PM As stated it is the air temp sensor. But from what I have heard it only works at start up. It doesn't need to be spliced into the CAI. You could drill a hole in the same area that the CAI goes through just so it is in the same cavity as the CAI. Mine is in the engine compartment but it isn't even reading the same air as the CAI. Makes no difference at all.
metro_se-r 07-15-2002, 09:51 PM Very well then, I guess I'll just hook it up into where the filter goes. Thanks for your help guys.
metro_se-r 07-17-2002, 07:02 PM Well, I hooked up the sensor and my check engine light is still on. Now I'm confused. I checked the MAF and thats connected too. So what the heck is wrong, why wont the light go off?!?
Slow 96R 07-17-2002, 07:15 PM Have you pulled the ECU and checked for the codes yet? This will be the way to start. Once you know why it's on we can better diagnose your problem. ;)

You have to reset the ecu. The code will not just disappear. Get a haynes or chilton's or do a search on the forum on how to reset the ecu.
Chrissy 07-17-2002, 09:29 PM I have that sensor just hanging there. It doesn't seem to be harming my car any. No check engine light here.
Mndgy 07-17-2002, 10:01 PM When I installed my hotshot cai the light came on.....it stayed on, I was too lazy to lengthen the temp sensor and reset the ecu and in around a period of 2-3 weeks the light went off....should I still reset the ecu??
WhiteSER20 07-17-2002, 11:32 PM ya mine is just taped to the piping, no tripped codes, reset the ecu and you should be fine.
i just disconnect the battery for the night and the next morning im ready to go(even though i know it doesnt take this long)
metro_se-r 07-18-2002, 12:09 AM I disconnected the battery figuring that would reset the ECU, but it didn't. I'm going to check my Haynes manual, see if it explains anything.
nismotic 07-18-2002, 12:23 AM Go to Autozone. They have big advertisement banners on the front of their stores saying "Check Engine light on? Come see us." I think the diagnostic test is free. I'm going to ask the next time I'm in there if it is or not.
metro_se-r 07-18-2002, 01:16 AM I can run the test myself, thats not a problem. In fact, I know why the light is on, I just want to get rid of it.
djisnx2000 07-19-2002, 04:09 PM You just have to reach for the ECU, there's a little screw and you must turn it anti-clockwise, then clockwise... something like that, check your FSM.
David SE-R 07-19-2002, 11:14 PM I have mine tie wrapped to a cable thats close to the filter, as told by Jim of JWT. Lucklily never had the engine light on.

www.se-r.net check it out you'll find a whole right up on how to preform the self test...
it's easy and take like 10 mins.
nismotic 07-21-2002, 02:52 AM damn the screw and counting blinks, take a ride to your nearest autozone, if you have one, and get one of the dudes to pull the code for you, assuming the service is free of course.
