hey guys, the alternator crapped out on my new NX 2000 and Im going to be replacing it either tonight or tommorrow, and I was wondering if theres any tricks to getting it out. Its wedged in there pretty good. I havent even touched it yet, figured Id see if theres an easy way to do it before I get greasy.
dohhhh edit, almost forgot. Is 200 bucks the going rate on a new alternator? autozone quoted me that.

Here's what i did.
1. Drain coolant
2. Remove hose from radiator, and the housing that attaches to the motor.
3. Loosen belt, and slide it of alt pulley.
4. Remove alt.
BTW, I just had mine rebuilt. I actually used mine, I did not buy i rebuilt. It took them 2-3hrs to do it.
So far so good. And it cost me $160CDN, so about $100US.
Leave your pulley on your alt.
Its really simple. BTW, one of the wires in the harness was cut (under the tape so i could not see it) in mine, resulting in the car dying again after the new alt was installed, so check all the wires.

I've heard you can loosen the motor mount on the alternator side, and jack the shit up until it clears the front of the car? Jay whitely (v8killer) mentioned this...

well new alternator is on the car thanks to Central Auto parts for 149 bucks, with lifetime warranty.
Sure woulda been a lot easier if the belt wasnt such a pain in the arse to get back on.
the NX sure runs sweet, new oil change... new alt, woooo
