ive not heared of any mods that can be done to the auto trans in our cars, are there any. i've done several searches and come up empty. curious about shift improver kits? or is there a way to raise line pressures to firm things up without hurting the internals?

There was a guy on the old SE-R mailing list that turbo'ed his auto B14. I believe he had Level 10 tweak the tranny. I think his name is Dr. Lewis Shafford (or something like that). He had a website that detailed his project - I came up empty just now, but you can also search SE-R.net for it (I might have mis-spelled his name).

Yes Doc Lew as he went by. But the level 10's have been proven to basicly bunk. Sure they helped a bit, but the ultimate holding power was somewhere near 200hp. After that you were seriously putting your tranny at risk. All level 10 did was a different stall torque converter and if you got the big boy kit it changed some of the clutches and steals in the tranny. But the total issue is that the tranny is tiny. Rmember with an auto its all about temps. If you can keep things at the right tempature you usually are pretty good. Too cold can be as much of an issue as too hot. I want to say at last I heard he was making around 225 out of that car. And he recently put it up for sale on the list
Other than Doc Lew there was Lionel Stackhouse. He had a det in his 93 auto. The three of us were the only automatic people at the time that was actively on the list.

Kevin's right about the temps. When mine was auto the tranny case would get hotter than my header. My car and Doc Lew's ran almost the exact same time's in the 1/8th mile, 60ft's and all, with mine being a few hundreths faster. My car was light with nitrous, his had turbo and a small shot of nitrous for spooling I think.

yea he had a 50 shot or so down low and didnt he have like a t3 or something on low boost. had cams and such. Its Lewis Shaddoff or some spelling of that.
autos need good aftermarket coolers cause the stock one isnt enough when you modify. bolt-ons it will handle. a small t25 setup it should handle. beyond that you should get another cooler. but like i said, too cold temps is as bad as too hot.
line pressure...dont modify it without changing other supporting systems. dont remove the "dropping" resisitor for firmer shifts either. that used to be the ghetto way of making it feel stronger...dont do it

Yeah mine took a dry 50 shot for a while, then I used a 75 shot and eventually it had NO 1st or 2nd gear. I had the level 10 converter in mine, but that was it. I ended up selling it to someone here, though I don't remember who it was.
