: What do these hoses do?
Driven97 07-15-2002, 05:10 PM Yikes! We're engine swap virgins in need of assistance. There are a lot of tubes running by / through the intake manifold and throttle body that are currently unidentified. The problem is coumpounded is that the Avenir DET is highport and the old '94 DE is lowport. Questions:
1. There is a ~1" coolant tube that runs under the intake runners. There is some sort of valve that has an electrical connection that was on the DE, and I can see where the valve would bolt on to th e DET, but it is not tapped for it. What is this valve, and do we need it?
2. Two hoses run off the top if the Intake manifold. One runs into the brake booster, the other one just gets blocked off, right? We plan on running the boost gauge off of this one.
3. There is at least one hose just inboard (torwards the manifold) of the t/b coolant run lines. Where do these go?
4. The wastegate, blowoff valve, and charcoal canister need to be refrenced to vacuum lines. Do they hook to pre-turbo, post turbo, or post throttle body reference?
Sorry for the oh so long post and lack of pictures. Any help is appreciated.
come on guys.... help us!!!!!!
SERprise In WV 07-15-2002, 10:43 PM Here's my help;
Wastegate line goes to port in pipe *right* before the throttle body. It needs to see the boost present at the TB.
BOV needs a manifold source of vacuum/boost. Post throttle body.
Hope this <little bit> helps.
Driven97 07-16-2002, 12:45 AM Thanks Greg!
The engine is now in the bay, and tonight we hooked up -most- of the electrical connections. We have two that look like they were part of the EGR system, so will not be used. It looks like we are going to have to extend the O2 sensor wires, also. We have one connection we can't figure out what it went to, and can't read our label on it. Other than that, and the few mystery hoses, so far so good. Updates to come.
Hey!
another Question:
The DET Block has an open area what looks to be right behind where the flywheel goes, so the back of the fly wheel is exposed? is there a bracket that I would put here to block this opening? My old DE block did not have this opening.
thanks,
Neeraj
djisnx2000 07-16-2002, 08:28 AM There's a little plate that goes in there. Just take your DE's
Thanks a lot, so I just unblot the plate and transfer it over!!!
That easy, I guess I did not look at it long enough to see that it was a seperate piece!!!! :D
Thanks Man,
Neeraj

My wastegate line is T'ed with the BOV and goes into the manifold vac port at the back of the manifold generally where the BOV goes.
My new custom i/c pipes dont have a "pre-TB" port for the wastegate.
This is no matter, boost is still read from manifold as the same as pre-TB. all the same.
Cheers, James
so you have bot the Blow off valve, and the waste gate going to that tube in that top back of the intake mantifold? this is a good place to get your boost guage also, so we "T" into that opening for all 3 of these things?
Neeraj
Hey!
We took the cover off the DE block (the opening in the Bell Housing) and it does not fit over the opening in the DET block. its not that big of a deal ***. it is not a stress part, and does not need to be torqued, so we will fabricate something out of some sheet metal.
But, what are you all doing about throttle cable Brackets? the DE one does not line up (low port) and there was not one on the DET... Will we have to fabricate that also, or can I order one from a dealership for a 1991 ser with C. C.?
thanks,
Neeraj

Yeah you could do that. I T'ed my boost gauge into the fuel pressure regulator (small circle dome thing on right hand side of fuel rail).. this goes into the TB... I get a nice vac and boost reading off that.
I wouldn't run the boost gauge in with the BOV. when the bov releases you get inaccurate readings on your boost gauge, I ran this like that for a little while actually. Not cool..
James
So I'll run the BOV into the back of the mantifold, then the boost guage into the FPR? this sounds like today's plan, with electrical connections, for lights, and pillar pods, that could take me a little while to get done!!!
thanks again,
Neeraj
