YES YOU READ IT RIGHT, I had flames coming out of the hood. I was in front of the car while my brother started it. I haven't done anything to the car. My brother was just gonna drive her and as soon as he started it, I saw smoke and then flames. Damn!!!! I saw the flames from the front left and it got to the brake lines going to the rotor. OMG!!!!. I had to spray it with fire extinguisher and then it still won't do it and i finally got a garden hose and sprayed the sucker. After all this, the flames finally out andI opened the hood and tried to figure out what the heck happened. The only thing I could see is the ground wire for the altenator was totally naked and was cut. I am not sure if it was cut before it was started or not at all. Well I don't have power and I went to autozone to get the alternator tested, they said that the can't test it. Now I am so confused, how can this be? Anyone have any clues?

as of right now I bought a new harness for the alternator and would probably need to buy a new alternator. The battery was dead at first. I bought a new one but the car won't have any power at all. I am not sure if it is supposed to even with the alternator out. Anyways I am glad I have the Z right now so I will try to get her back up and running by saturday.

That is so crazy! I would think that the battery would power fine even without the alternator in. YOu may not be able to turn the car over or something but I am not for sure. The electronics should work fine though.

I would be willing to bet that you blew alot of fuses, if the hot wire for the alt. shorted on the bracket or whatever it was on. Change the fuses and you should have power.

I will try to hook it up on saturday . It is just funny. I think my 200sx is jelous of my 300zx. HEHE.

There are a lot of fuses throughout the engine bay. IT will take a while but worth the time. I just hate electrical systems sometimes. I had an awful time with my fogs after I put a new harness in, to find out that when I swapped my tranny I had one wire to ground and the whole foglight assembly wasn't getting power. the wire is black with a loop on it, it goes to the positive terminal!!!! Why is it black? Got me but that is what you deal with all the time.
