My ceiling carpeting (dont know what the hell its called) is slowly pulling away from the board and just hanging there...is their some kind of adhesive I could get to stick it back up there? Right now I have pins holding it up, it looks really trashy....has anyone else had this probelm? I tried super glue but it didnt hold.

It's called the "Headliner". I think any of your local upholstry (sp?)shops could fix it for around $80. Don't quote me on that price though.

Wow, that is a lot for a stupid piece of carpet...they never made some sort of spray for it? Otherwise the headliner is staying ghetto? I am gonna check out Advanced autopaarts today to see if they have any sprayable tact or something.

let me know what you find out. I have seen and heard prices of 150-200 to get it replaced. I am making my car a track car, so i might just remove the whole damn thing. Im not spending 200 to fix it! Anyone removed the headliner on their car? Any advise?

It looks like cork underneath or something, I dont think I want just the cork their but hell If I could take it out and spray it black I think it would look fine, but there also seems to be this spongy shiyat on it, and that is the reason why I think nothing sticks. Damn classics....my front dash is peeling up a the very front vent also and I tried to glue it down, however it didnt hold...I think my car is peeling.

yeah, it is some nasty cork kinda crap. Its all over my car! You touch it and it just peels off. maybe that was the factory glue. *sigh* either way, i am going to gut the car, might as well start with that!

I dont even like the headliner there...someone who is planning on taking it out should just do it and tell me how it looks with just the headliner off of it. :D

You can get spray adhesive at pretty much any auto parts store. I think even walmart and stores of that nature carry. Unfortunately it will only provide you with a temporary hold until it starts to sag again.

I would go for the 3M Spray adhesive... it's found in the auto care section of Wal-Mart. I completely replaced the headliner in my SE-R w/ sunroof after the staples installed (courtesy of the previous owner) gave way. I bought color-matched headliner material from an auto upholstery shop for $13. It was fairly easy to do because the interior trim pieces will cover the edges where you cut, so you don't have to be exact. It took about 3 hours to do altogether and it looks exactly like OEM. Here's the process:

1. Remove interior trim as necessary and headliner board
2. Peel off old liner and use a wire brush to remove all traces of the old adhesive.
3. Lay down newspaper under and around the board (the adhesive gets messy)
4. Spray the entire surface with the adhesive (takes about 2 cans for my '92 SE-R w/ sunroof)
5. Quickly lay the headliner on the board and press it out with your hands, starting from the middle to the outside.
6. Continue to work the material into the contours.
7. Trim out holes for sunroof, switches, mirror and reinstall.

I forgot to add that if you just use the spray with the existing headliner, it probably won't stay because the board has to be completely cleaned of the old adhesive/headliner residue. Good luck!

OMG...well, I think I might just take the existing adhesive off adn try that spray and see how it goes, then I might do that 3 hr plan. But I dont care about it THAT much.

The problem with headliners isn't the material. It's the foam that's under the material. It just starts deteriorating. If you're going to fix it you might as well do the entire thing over. It's really simple to do. I do upholstery for a living. I wouldn't recommend trying to stick the entire thing at once. You can remove all the material, use the wire brush. Then get a big enough piece of the new material to cover the entire shell. Fold it back so you're working on 1/2 at a time.Spray the adhesive, let it tack up and go to town. Start in the middle and work your way out. Headliner material is about the easiest material to work with. It's very forgiving.. :D

One question. Do you smoke in the car? If you do, the smoke dry rots the foam material and causes it to sag.

Hahahahaha...yeah, you can say I smoke in the car daily. But most the time I try to make sure the smoke doesn't stay in the car. I might do that when I get some free time. I dont like that headliner anyhow, I just would like something hard for a ceiling. Under the cork board, what is there? Just the roof? would it look bad to just leave the cork and remove the old sponge and just paint it black?

I removed my healiner. You really never notice it isn't there. How often do you look up anyway? Remove all your "oh shit" handles, pop off the sunroof controls (if you have one), remove the panel on the rearview mirror arm( yes, it comes apart), unscrew the bolt, remove you interior light, unscrew it, and remove your visors. Once that's out of the way, pull all the shit down, reinstall everything and go vacuum your car, because it will need it. I may have forgotten something but you'll figure it out. The rearview mirror is the trickiest part.

My headliner is OFF!!! Along with every other panel known to man. It looks better to me with that crap off. More headroom. No one will notice from the outside of the vehicle.
The ceiling is the same color as the car too. SWEET!!:D
