: palm sized impact driver
classicaddict 11-27-2007, 11:27 PM http://bosch.cpotools.com/images/product/large/ps40-2-rt.jpg
found this little guy (bosch ps40) as i was tooling around home depot. it sells for $170ish and puts out around 800in lbs. thats alittle less than 70 ft lbs. but this is perfect for any interior work, removeing pretty much any 10mm and 12 mm that exists on the car. my buddy has a 3/8 snap on battery powerd impact driver at work and i use that thing CONSTANTLY. removeing 10mm on engine under covers, valve covers, installing drive belts, window regulators, brakes..............ALOT of stuff.
haveing something like this cuts work time in half because your not waisting minutes useing a rachet removing a long 10mm bolt. you hit the button and the bolt is all the way out in seconds.
put this on your x-mas list:biggthump as well as an extra battery so you can always have a freash one ready to rock.
skcusloa 11-28-2007, 12:14 AM I have a snap one 3/8 electric impact. That thing is beat to SHIT. I've only had one battery the whole time. It'll take properly torqued lug nuts off. I mainly only use it for 10 12 and screws.

BenFenner 11-29-2007, 01:57 PM My old shop had Makita brand battery operated impact drivers. I can't recommend them enough if you don't have air tools. I guess any decent brand should be fine, I just have experience with the Makita ones. I loved it. I really need one. =]

i have a 1/2 inch snap-on gun with 450 forward TQ and 500+ reverse breaking TQ. i have a mac 3/8 gun with 400 breaking TQ.
and i STILL want a battery powerd one. in no way to i recomend useing this on wheels, however it beats the hell out of having to hook up the air hose every time you need to remove some random hardware. and try doing interior work on a customers car with a tool and a dirty grimy air line running around in their car............that normally doesnt fly to well:squint:

chris....thats AWSOME. i was just reading about it. 950in/lbs breaking TQ is outstanding for a small gun like that. and the price fits my x-mas list nicely.
what all can you normally use it on? what type of stuff does it have trouble with?

Will it break loose an OEM installed 36mm axle nut on a G20? :D
chriscar 11-30-2007, 05:59 PM Will it break loose an OEM installed 36mm axle nut on a G20? :DHell no boss, and my 18v DeWalt 1/2" probably won't either, but the EARTHQUAKE will. :biggthump

chriscar 11-30-2007, 09:02 PM Exactly where I was going... :DThough you wouldn't want to use HarborFreight's finest to tighten up valve cover bolts, or dashboard screws..... would you?

I bought the EARTHQUAKE, and yes, it took those axle nuts right off.
I tried taking the axles nuts off with a 2 foot breaker, and i jumped on that bar (i'm 250lbs) and it wasn't going anywhere! Thank you Earthquake!
blairellis 12-01-2007, 03:08 PM Earthquake? I'll google it but anyone got a link in the mean time?
dcr1d3r13 12-01-2007, 03:36 PM which is the earthquake?

I finally bit the bullet and bought one of these today. It's gotten to the point where I can't do certain things (tighten strut shaft bolts) without an impact driver. I ended up finding what I feel is the lowest price for it at www.toolup.com for $166.96 shipped. Every other place was $200-$345 for the kit (driver, battery, charger, case).
BenFenner 02-04-2008, 12:53 AM After working with my new tool for a while now, I can say that I would no longer recommend it for major automotive work. When I used to use it, the tightest bolts we dealt with were those that hold seats to the floor of the car. It worked fine for this use, but once taken under the car for suspension work or otherwise, it doesn't have the torque to get the job done. It seems that it's max torque is 80 ft/lbs (not sure what the manufacturer claims) which isn't going to work for loosening anything that needs a breaker bar.
So, it's a great tool for interior work (which was the topic of this thread), but I would go with something else if you're looking to do the job of an air tool with a battery powered driver.
