on my 98 se-r 5spd with 9lb flywheel and 6 puck. i can't reverse without hearing a whine mur mur noise. it does it sometimes in first especially when it is cold and the car shudders really hard. what is that?!!!!

Some whine is normal in reverse, but not in forward gears. Have you checked the fluid?

new clutch install recently? or long ago? that sound could be the throwout bearing going out. mine did that when i first did my clutch. i didn't lock the t/o bearing in place with the clips, and it was leaning. after about 2000 miles, the sound started coming on only when i step on the clutch, meaning there is load on the t/o bearing. not sure if this is what you hear.

its cause the entire gearset is turning with the load on the weak side of the ring and pinion. the weak (concave) side makes alot of noise. dont worry about anything being wrong. something close to all cars do it, its usually just noticed more in manual trans cars, especially fwd manuals, due to the heavier oil.

well i only have about 1700 miles on my xtd clutch. i notice that when i launch it drives smoother the harder i ride it. but when i try to shift at high rpm it will grind and block out the shift like i am going 50 and downshifting into first. should i change gear oil? i have 80-90 cheap stuff now.

Cheap gear oil can cause more noise. After I had my input bearing changed, I noticed more noise in 1st gear, as well as when I let off in 3rd gear. After filling the transmission with Shockproof Light, all was well.

okay, i can't down shift, at all or it grinds hard like a screw being stripped out by a drill gun. anybody? i've tried to check my fluid but the clutch guy used an air wrench and i am a weak man.:(
