:D
I just got my hands on a 1983 Nissan 280zx Turbo 5speed. Its tan and brown with tan interior. Its a beater. I picked it up for $50 whole dollars. The motor is on the brink of working. Looks like it was rebuilt. Has been parked for ages and had three "animal nest" inside the engine bay. Inside has three nice large cracks across the dash and some shot headliner. T- tops have cracks in the glass, and rust on the body. Ok so its a project. At least this will keep me busy during the day.

Hey cool... if you want any help wrenching... let me know. Maybe we could make it a meet day! Our semi-regular "let's fix a beater meet." Now, don't expect them all on your beater though... most of us have one, and the rest of us are looking for one! :D

Motor is now running. Everything sounds excellent. Today I soldered on new injector pig tails and repaired the mechanical Mass Airflow/Intake Air Temp sensor. The car was reving really really nicely and the OEM boost guage works, but I want to replace with something slightly more accurate. After a little bit I started to here a tick. Started pulling wires and one of them was completely green with corrosion on the inside. I found brand new cables in the trunk and ordered a cap, rotor, and NGK for tomorrow.
These Mechanical AFM are weird you can open the brain up and adjust them with a screw its really strange.
So far I have 134.00 invested in the car with the above parts and buying it. Once everything is cool I should be laying down a solid 128 to the wheels factory. I talked to a guy today and he said that the internals are actually pretty strong and can withstand some decent boost. Also said compression ratio is under 8.0:1. If anyone can find some more info on these motors(L28ET) I would appreciate it. I have my japanese friend looking for Fairlady Z badges the the car came with in Japan and Fender mirrors also. till nect time. Maybe I could make it a GRM challenge car..lol

Hey they don't make Mexi lights, but I am looking at maybe some hella Aux Driving lamps to take these bastards place..lol.
The car is now running really well. Tune up parts helped a bunch. Found out that the A/C compressor was frozen, so its gone along with the bracket and other A/C parts. I also went ahead and cleaned the motor up a bit. Wiped down the 3inch layer of grease from all the engine walls. No I don't get dirty looking at it. Also junked the Charcole(SP?) canister and factory airbox(restrictive POS). Tomorrow I will start on the interior taking out the dash then blower motor/ rest of the HVAC system and anything that has to do with it. I found a huge rust hole by the feder wheel that meets up with the foot well. I think I will be getting a tecnis shot for the rest of the build up

hey i had a 1982 280zx turbo 5 speed.. they are awesome cars.. mine had 156k miles on the clock and 8psi and my best time slip was 14.2@99 with a bad launch... the l28et in my opinion is one of the best/strongest motor nissan has put out. i know 2 people in tampa with stock internals running 11sec 1/4mile times in theirs..if you have anyspecific questions on the motor let me know i can get them answered with little to no effort at all.. oh yeah you might want to remove the pop off valve at the rear of the intake manifold and plug it.. i think the factory pop off vavle is set to 9-12psi if i remember correctly.. you can get a pipe plug from a hardware store to plug the hole. and if you go playing around in the local junk yards you should get the intake manifold from a 280z... it doesnt have all the emmissions b.s... ok enough rambling... gl on your 280.. i know i miss mine...you gotta love the injector fan:)

I definaly want to remove the injector fan. Is it really needed?
Today I took the whole dash out. Basicly the car is gutted except the steering wheel and some padding (which will be gone tomorrow). My next project is to fix all the rust in the floor and other places. and then work on replacing all bushings and take out the P.S. too.
Ohh all the A/C componenets are now offcialy out. Nothing is left, nothing at all.
till next time....

the injector fans are really not needed.. ive never seen them come on in my car.. I think the temp has to be really high for it to actually kick on. taking your ps out will make a huge difference i know it did on mine. does your rear end clunck sometimes when you shift? i know mine did but that was just due to the rear half of the car rusting out and the rear end mounts on those are famous for going out. my car was so rusted i pulled up the passenger seat to look for some change and i could see the road. so that in conjunction with tearing 3rd and 4th gear out racing a 98 mustang cobra i decided to get rid of the car ( I beat that cobra btw..on 8psi with no intercooler)..hmmm im rambling again.. I think i miss that car more than i thought.. I have a vdo boost guage lying around if you want it for the 280zx.. anything else i can help you with on that car let me know..oh yeah i also still have a valve cover lying around if you want that too.. its half way painted red but you can do what ever you want with it

hey anything you want to donate..lol, yeah I will take the injector fan of. The rack is bad so I may do that as well. I am going to start looking for the 280z manifold as that is something I had planned on doing
