I have a 92 240sx, I want to know what would be better coilovers or lowering springs, what would give me the best ride. What's easier to put on, which one would last longer, which one is the cheapest.

thanks

You just asked alot of questions! It really depends on how much you are willing to spend on them. You are generally alot better off with a GOOD set of coilovers. The ground control ones are supposed to be a good set, and don't cost a whole lot.

It all comes down to money, and if you don't mind spending a grand on your suspension then go with the coilovers with adjustable struts/shocks. There are other companies that make them than ground control for the 240 sx that don't make them for the sentra and they are very high quality. Search around and you will find them.

Well I don't want to spend that over $200 and I would put them in myself. I just want a lower ride, but if it's going to cost to much then I will probably just not do it.
thanks for all your help.

If you want cheap and a low ride just get some cheap coilovers. NOt sure which brands make them cheap for a 240 though. Try APC, but it will ride like ASSSSSSS!

cheap coilovers are worse than lowering springs. If you are not spending big money get some nice springs.

how much would some decent coilovers be... I see that coilovers are overall better than springs but how much would a whole system cost?

thanks

Natboy, i dont think you should use the word suspension and cheap in the same sentence. just a thought, but have you thought about what modifying your suspension could do for safety? if you get a cheapo set, theres no telling what could happen. get real set. get a damn good set of coilovers. and yes, it probably will take you alot longer to get them, but you know how much more satisfied you will be with a good set rather that Ricky Ricer springs. suspension is just as important if not more than the powertrain. if you plan on doing any type of racing, then investing in a good set will be one of the best things you could do. but if you want to be all " Ballah" and just cruz the streets while sitting so low you might be scraping your exhaust on the ground, get them anyway. because then you can be like, " yeah bitch i got these mad coilovers from over in Japan, specifically made for my ride":) but either way, do yourself some good and get the best you can get, save up money, and but a very well known, hihg quality setup for your car. and dont say there isnt many choices, ill lay the smacketh down then:) , just go to TakaKaira.com and look around on that, your car is either an S13 or S14. so see whats up on that site. and if you cant find anything on there go to zilvia.net and get on the forums there. thier a big 240sx/silvia/300ZX crowd. good people too, i used to be on that forum alot. anyway, good luck with the suspension, i hope you pick the right choice;)

I prefer coil overs. Just the simple thing of being able to adjust your ride hieght however you desire is what I like. I hopefully will be getting some GC's in the future.

Do you regularly use your car for anything like autocrossing or roadracing/open-tracking? If not, then lowering springs would be the cheapest/easiest way to go.

The advantage with coilovers is that you can adjust the ride height at each corner (time-consuming process using scales) for a slight advanatage in handling. You can also pick and choose spring rates.

But if your car isn't anything other than a daily driver, you don't need to worry about that, IMO. Nobody gives out trophies for pimpin' your ride the fastest through the drive-thru at McDonalds. :D If you want "the look," just get some good shocks and something like Eibach Pro-Kits.

search man! that is how I would find them. Tein, JIC, Apex'i and ground control are all pretty high in price. i don't know the cheaper ones.

I've heard lots of good things about Tein coil-overs for 240's. I would look into them. They are prolly expensive, though.

Hey Matt,

Your not that far from Ben92SentraSE-R. Why don't you PM him and see if he would help you install your suspension. I can help you out also if you want to take a cruise here at Chicago.

I would recommend coil-over as well. JimmyNX2000 and slowSER have given you a pretty good advice. You need to answer those questions before you decide which route you want to go with your suspension.

I myself will never sell myself short on suspension or brakes. I can go as fast as I can but those two I mention will eventually save my life.

I to don't want to go real cheap, but see here's the thing. I am not a pro racer that needs some really really good stuff. I might never make it to a track with my car. I just wanted to be alittle lower, and not lose a whole lot of the ride of the car.

thanks for all the advise.

So, I'm the only guy to vote for springs, maybe because I'm the only one whose actually had GC coilovers on his car. For a street car, get prokits.

Cheers,
Charlie :)

I voted for springs, too. For a car that isn't going to see much track/autox time, I think it's the best (cheapest, easiest) way for Natboy789 to go. Just make sure the shocks are upgraded at the same time.

if your gonna buy coilovers or lowering springs, dont buy it from "speedsports" on ebay. he took my money and ran so im out of 200 bucks and no springs.

SHOE: that sucks man. It is unfortunate but there have been a few reported incidents like that in the last couple weeks here in the forum. all different places at that.

Me, I voted for coilovers *** I gots these new Scotthigspeed joints, and I need an autocross course because my car handles 10X better than that eibach prokit junk! Not only handles but rides really smooth (except for my muffler hitting the bottom of the car  ) They will cost you though ($1900), but why do what I did? Buy springs, spend over $500 and hate the ride, change to coilovers and spend another $1K when you can just save up the money get with Scott and do it right the first time. You never know when your going to go to an SR20 meet and get hookedn on autocrossin.
