: New Section Suggestion - MPG Section
CovertRussian 12-05-2007, 01:15 PM I was thinking about this, and I think it would be nice to have one location for perfecting the MPG's on our cars. Otherwise have to jump around bunch of different sections to find information, or to post information.
For track-monster cars this section will be pointless, but for people that run their SR's as DD's this would be helpful :biggthump
skeeter149 12-05-2007, 01:42 PM word then i can finally figure out how bad my mpgs are doing and we can here the ways people are keeping it up. i would also love to see a special car care section. you know the maintenance(Sp?) that people do. like how often they change gaskets i dont know. i just love reading how others take care of there babies.

So that we wouldn't clutter the area, we could combine those into one section.
Regular Maintenance and MPG improvement Section
skeeter149 12-05-2007, 04:15 PM i can dig it or we could call it like- fuel economy and maintance. or something smart but if nothing else i wanna see that mpg one get started up.
Fosters 12-05-2007, 05:17 PM I'm thinking that you could probably just start (or update) a MPG thread in the General section. I don't know how much traffic a Maintenance section would get even though tune-up items are still a good idea for DD's and track cars.
Not up to me though.
CovertRussian 12-05-2007, 09:31 PM Could but it gets messy and then its harder to find information etc.
WingmanSR20 12-05-2007, 10:59 PM Plus if no-body posts on the MPG thread for a day in the General section, it'll be swiftly overtaken by newb posts and 3hr thread bumps. Now I have to search down the section to find it again.
A dedicated section would simplify the search and also allow us to explore options more specifically in threads (i.e. Improve SR20DET thread, VE Mileage thread, you get the idea).
One MPG thread with everyone talking about every different setup is going to make it hard to find the info for your application by making you sift through all the posts, reading many pages to find only 3 or 4 posts apply to you.
I think a combined area for GM and MPG would be a great idea, especially considering GM often directly applies to MPG differences. They go hand in hand nicely. If anything, a GM section would be very helpful to everyone.
CovertRussian 12-05-2007, 11:50 PM Well said Wingman :biggthump
CovertRussian 12-06-2007, 08:11 PM So any Yay or nays for this? I have been collecting a little bit of information and need to dump it someplace.
Se-R ippin As-S 12-06-2007, 10:11 PM def. a good Idea,
(Not to thread jack) but my VE goes 15 min.
at an average speed of 75 mph,
in 5th gear the whole time through 1/4 of a (filled with 93) gas tank,
It would good to see what others do to keep their Gas milage high

No worries on thread jack, it's hard to understand what exactly you mean by those numbers though....
Se-R ippin As-S 12-07-2007, 12:43 AM lol sorry I'm still recovering from a pretty bad cuncusion,
My Ve goes on the highway for 15 min. (avrg.), at an (avrg.) speed of 75 mph, in 5th gear not ripping it at all and goes through a quarter tank of gas

Here's what I'm getting from this post:
In 15min, going 75mph, you use up a 1/4 tank of gas...which means you get 75miles per tank? Are you sure your gauge is accurate? That comes out to a little over 5.5mpg! :eek2:

Oh sorry to hear about your concussion :(

Your car is running wayyyyy too rich. Going 75MPH does what RPM range are you in? Is VVL activated at that time? If so that's probably why ;)
Se-R ippin As-S 12-07-2007, 03:55 PM lol, yea dude I'm telling you my car is runing way to rich I'm probly averaging at 2500 - 3500 rpm, 15 min is probly a exageration, lets say 25 min. thats still bad though, NO VVL untill 5900, I know I'm not in VVL,

Dang thats still crazy. I wanted to go VE for better gas mileage, but if something like this would happen I would be Pissed... hehe.
Now have you tried using a wideband to see were it's running rich etc?
Se-R ippin As-S 12-07-2007, 11:14 PM no not yet, ut i think I'm going to send my 2nd ecu out to get tuned by Calum, and have (AFASTEGG) take a look at my ecu now (through emanage) It's definatly running to rich

Does the car at least feel good when you step on it? Or does it feel kinda weak?
Se-R ippin As-S 12-08-2007, 10:36 PM actually now that its been cooler out it ripps harder than ever, popin VVL in secound gear sends my wheels spinning, ( I also feel the gas pedal out) but, during the summer when i used to just punch it I could sometimes feel it not pull to full potential..

Do you have a cold air intake? That would help in the summer :biggthump
