Got in the girlfriends ‘93 NX2K today and it wouldn’t start. When I turned the key the dummy lights came on but absolutely nothing happened, kind of like when you try to start your car but forget to push the clutch in. However, the problem is her car is an automatic so that rules the clutch theory out. The car won’t start when it is in “Park” but it thankfully starts in “Neutral”. Is there a switch somewhere that would prevent it from starting? If so, how do I fix it?
TIA!

Make sure its all the way in park, sometimes if a drink or something is in the way that will stop you. Also, try holding it in start position and messing with the shift lever - push it up further in park etc. Its probably just the netural/park safety switch and if it works in neutural it may just be out of adjustment..

My pathfinder did that here and there and it was the switch for park. That switch went bad and the truck didn't think it was in park so it didn't start.

yah sometimes its the simple things, always try them first. and if the switch theory aint working, id bet on a bad alternator thats drained your battery. try jumping the car, if it starts up fine, runs good for a little while, than dies again, its probably your alt not giving any juice to the battery. if you have a volt-ohm meter, you can test the battery right now, see what its voltage is. than when you get the car started off a jump, see if the voltage decreases as the car is running. of course, if the alternator is good, it shouldnt decrease.
hope that helps.

what's this about the clutch? Is there a switch that you have to have the clutch in to start??? I don't have to put the clutch in on mine to start it.....

Look underneath the car on the driver side. Follow the transmission cable to the tranny and you will see it connects to this weird shaped thing with a lever on it. That is the nuetral safety switch. There are two bolts holding it one and the holes are slotted for adjustment. Loosed the bolts and adjust accordingly. I found it easiest to put it all the way to one side and move it a little at a time and check for starting in park. Eventually it will start so just tighten the bolts back down at that spot. It worked for me...hopefully it works for you.
