: The new front page
ekool, you're obviously technically saavy, or at least business-saavy. You're just not SR20Forum-saavy. That can change, though.
The thing you have to understand is that is a self-made community.
A lot of our parts don't come from big part houses and aftermarket vendors because we don't drive late-model Hondas or Mustangs. Often we have fronted our own money and supported small outfits and custom group deals to achieve our goals.
People I count as friends have put in huge amounts of time, money, and effort to organize our conventions, test new upgrades, help fix/install parts, and crew for each others' racecars.
People will resent an unknown coming in and changing the rules, and taking away the notion that we have a shred of grassroots control and effort. It's more than the sum of a few doo-dads being changed.
I don't know what more to say to fix this jam. A proper introduction, a picture or two, what you have raced, etc., will go a long way. Censoring, blocking, and herding will not. Earn respect with your good word and deep.
Wicked R 12-10-2007, 11:19 PM I am so fucking happy now that I edited all my posts before this ship sunk... Remember my "Nevermind" edits?? Whew...
Cheers-
Erich
NissanTuner 12-10-2007, 11:20 PM I'll say it again.
This site is a resource, not a profit generator.
robchaos19 12-10-2007, 11:22 PM I have read through all 5 pages of this BS, and I for one can say that unless this site is reverted back to Pre-Autoforums layout, I am out as soon as my contributor account runs out.
I will refrain from posting up the new forum URL because it seems to upset you Ekool,
But tell me one thing, why do you feel it neccessary to come in and change a winning formula. This forum has basically run AND paid for itself for the whole of its existence, and has brought vendors and companies a great place to come and peddle their wares, without a corporation flooding our posts with Intelliads and sidebar ads and banner ads (yes I know I cannot see any of these because I am a contributor, but the thought of what those poor guys without as much money have to see right now just makes me turn red with rage)
If you would have lurked here a little longer, you would have seen that your company could of had a great opportunity to profit off of a forum by doing NOTHING AT ALL.
You could of kept the same mods, not had to pay off anybody, and just changed all the advertisers and allowed other vendors in.
This change is a huge slap in the face to a forum that has always been about NO BS information and has been largely community-centric. We came here for the simplistic design and ease of finding information. Please consider this and change the forum back to the way it was before. Everyone has made it clear that we do not want to have to opt out of having dumb boxes pop up on my screen every time my mouse accidently moves over a word. We do not need dumb navigation sidebars linking me to other vendors and useless ads. We do not need a dumb entry page that is not the actual forum index.
enohand 12-10-2007, 11:22 PM damn this is better then oprah..
ekool (autoforums) get's http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c332/InSurfWeTrust17/PWNED.jpg
ekool 12-10-2007, 11:22 PM Just don't cripple the non-paying members, and bring the edit button back.
The non payment members have every benefit they had before we got here.
i wasn't thinking too much about this topic while reading through until i found out we can't edit our posts? that would be one thing that i dislike the most.
Edit will be brought back after everything has calmed down.
As one of the older members AND the owner of a web and print media company, I think it would be in your best interest to tell us a bit about yourself...
when I deal with a small company and take a few employees of theirs to work with mine I make sure they are comfortable and know the team they are working with
We may all have our opinions of autoforums but we deal with you...
So, please, tell us a bit about yourself.
RacerX -- I've been a car nut since I can remember -- well before I owned a car. I used to dream about driving the golf cart for my father when he would take me out with him to play golf -- well before I was old enough to drive a real car.
I've owned just about everything that has 2 or 4 wheels since I was 16 - the list is too long to go over here and I've forgotten many over the years. I would probably highlight some of my favorites *** -- 68 Chevelle, 67 Camaro, 91 Mustang, 87 Turbo Buick, 94 Supra (that I went wingless with and ran 10.80's in), Dodge SRT4, Cherokee SRT8 and many others...
I work for Autoforums.com -- it is a company, but one of the reasons that we do so well is that we are all automotive enthusiasts. I work with people who are genuinely passionate about cars every day. Its a dream job... and yes, sometimes I am forced to make changes to a site but I always push to keep them to a minimum and try and offer people a way to opt-out if possible.
Obviously people here are going to be upset -- and I understand that. All I can try to do is offer people a way to turn things off which I believe we've done. Anything beyond that really is out of my control.
I'm still trying to figure out what I can't edit my posts.
It is so you cannot go in and delete "valuable" posts.
Posts that draw people TO this forum.
However, you can copy and paste them and take them over to www.SR20(dash)Forum.com
insert - for (dash).
You seriously have a lot of eballs to go and say something like that. Easy way out, isn't it? What the fu*k do you expect when you disenfranchise an entire community? You expect the members to act calm and collected? fu*k off.
Holy Moly, I am agreeing with Wildmane. Do you have any idea what you've done? Oh wait, why would you? You're not part of this community.
XxToKeSxX 12-10-2007, 11:24 PM Guys guys guys guys... please calm down... please. :(
if your a contributor you can change things back to the way they were... please lets work through this. It came as a shock to me to... Let's be calm and collective.
Really wish this didn't come all at once.
vladha 12-10-2007, 11:24 PM Heavy Siggggghhhhhh... and, I can't help myself. I've already made my peace with this site, and it had nothing to do with the change over. I've read every post on the change over, and guess what? The level of immaturity and blanket hate? One of the overwhelming reasons my enthusiam for this board has waned.
I don't agree or disagree with what Matt and etool have done... none of my business, even though I'm a contributor and have been here for a pretty long time. Seriously, I know that we're notoriously cheap bastards, but to behave like a knee-jerked hyper-active chipmunk on steriods? I'm not too surprised by some of the excitement, but the total lack of civility... astounds me. Gripe away, but gripe it righteously... don't foul your own nest.
Erich and Brian... you guys have always been hotheads, still love/respect you both, though. Jim and Bowlcut... deep breaths. All of you are probably right and I'll get to the point. This site will not be much of a money maker for etool, we drive old cars and have old friends for a reason... plus, we're cheap. Sadly, in order for them to make money, they will have to completely change the site and attract an entirely different breed of members. Thus, irrevocably changing sr20forum.com forever... for good or bad.
I apologize if I've offended anyone. I guess I'm just old... I try to write and behave as I would if I were talking to y'all in person. (Yes, I am an asshole in real life;). I've noticed that the generation or two behind me don't understand that and everyone has turned into e-thugs.
I'll check out the new site, say hello and then be on my merry way.
Peas us Riced,
Mark
b13se-rluver 12-10-2007, 11:25 PM I love how eGAY didn't respond to my post.
mal_tiempo 12-10-2007, 11:26 PM I think JimR is our voice of reason right now, saying everything we are, but in a calm voice. Please answer him.
Edit will be brought back after everything has calmed down.
.
Layman's terms: Edit will never be brought back to valuable threads/posts. He doesn't know anything about SR powered cars. If all the informative threads are deleted what will be left?
92blackSE-R85 12-10-2007, 11:27 PM As someone else used the "mom and pop coffee shop reference" -- so too will I. You want to advertise your "website" -- so be it... but I don't have to allow it on our website.
This is also the reason for edits -- once everything calms down we will turn it back on.
again homie its not your site its ours...and controlling what people do is just going to piss them off even more. i suggest you chill and think before you act. were not going to respect you if you pull crap like this. unfortunately for you, you have stumbled across a forum that is not full of people who like what everybody else likes. from what ive gatherd this forum is full of knowladgeable people who want nothing to do with you or your buisness so trying to pull the wool over our eyes is not going to work. we are not ignorant children do talk to us like we were and maybe you will get somewhere.
Gerry
classicaddict 12-10-2007, 11:27 PM jim said it very nicely. we do not really have alot of bug companies that make us parts...........most of them are here on our forum providing us with greatness. if you run us off our forum we will have nothing left. THIS IS SR20'S if this forum goes under.....dude, you just killed se-r's. this isnt about some silly little forum or its members. its about keeping a car alive. i am not being dramatic in any way.
please point me in the direction of any other forum with this kind of quality info on se-r's/FWD sr20'd nissans and ill give up my argument...................and nissanforums.com is not valid in any way.
bobbyisking 12-10-2007, 11:27 PM i'm starting to think if anything i have ever posted will come back to haunt me...
Ninja 12-10-2007, 11:28 PM ekool, I have one very important suggestion:
PLEASE take a button off of your page for our forum. I was once a member of NissanForums and after your company bought it and directed thousands of half retarded teen-aged ricers to that site it's fate was sealed. Now there is no way to get a good answer on anything technical, unless it involves wiring subs or mounting a god-awful unpainted bodykit.
Also, to be the Nth person to ask this: What do you drive? Where is your passion in the auto industry?
This is important to everyone on the forum to have someone who understands us and cares about the future of our community other than profit.
SR20Boston: RIP, you're dead to me now. :(
Who the fack is ekool?
YOU'RE OUR ADMIN?!>!>!? Do you even own an SR20? because I've never seen you before.
He's an Automotive enthusiast
Wicked R 12-10-2007, 11:29 PM I love you too Mark!!
I am going to see how this goes after a week. I see that you are not able edit posts now(until it calms down)...if this hinders a potential sale in any of my threads I am out of here.
I have been here too long to get "shafted" in that way. I even have a custom GB up and I hope it does not faulter cause of this.:(
My "build thread" will not be updated until I get all my options restored and I have some juicy stuff to post.LOL!!!
Anyhow, I think ekool will step up to the plate and restore what is needed to calm everyone down.:poke:
