has anyone tried putting in special weird shape screws on their radio brackets so that it would be very hard for someone to steal their radio???? I was thinking something like this shape " * " or maybe an allen wrench type screw. Has anyone ever done this and where can i find some that will fit in the factory bracket holes??? BTW I've already checked home depot

They'll still just rip it out... don't bother... trust me... Working at best buy I saw some VERY messed up dashes due to theft, and this was without people trying to anchor stuff down. Worst were the people that bolted their sub boxes down like they were supposed to and when the bastards couldn't grab it they punched the subs :-(

Detachable face help some - insurance can worry about the rest.....

Look at it like this, if someone really wants it, and its worth stealing, they'll get it somehow...

how about making a ghetto faceplate for your radio....or melt some solder into the screw heads, then just unmelt it when you want to take it out again...

Solder won't bond to what is mostly plasctic behind the scew heads, at least it is in my 91 B13. I would say just take the face plate with you and hide your amps if you have them andfor subs, there really isn't much you can do.

...I meant putting solder where the slot for the philips head goes...not plastic to metal, works especially well if the screw heads are rounded off too....:D

If you do have a detachable face raido might as well leave it on the deck. It will save you dome interior damage from a pissed off crook. I found that out the hard way.

Seriously - its a waist of your time man - they aren't going to take their time to unscrew your deck, they are ***** yank the thing out of the center of the dash....

Spend the time/effort/money on an alarm.

I hear you Chris, they should just get an alarm. That will at least deter them or make them run.

Listen to Crhis he knows what he's talking about. Make it easy to pull out so that they don't garf up your dash. Stereos are cheap and easy to install, dashs are neither of those. Put in a decent alarm and hope for the best. Making a phony face plate is relatively easy and works pretty well at deterring theft, but would be difficult to make look right in your case. My brother in law had 3 stereos stolen out of his car and we finally did a phony face plate and it's worked ever since.

well i already have an alarm, i guess yall are right that the alarm should deter the theif. I guess im just being a little extra precautious. Thanks though.

That sucks :( I was going to suggest tamper proof torx screws. But, I agree w/ Chris. don't bother, they'll take it anyway.

get some hurricane straps from home depot and cut yourself a piece long enough to go from your floor to the reciever then on the rear of the reciever you have a place you attach it there should be a lug of some sort just attach it there and you can get the screws at either a supply house (electrical) or lowes special fastener section....or ask the guys at home depot where to get star bit screws from.
