: Redline Shockproof Heavy gear oil

Alright i did a clutch job on my car clutch.net pp and 6-puck disc and put the Shockproof heavy gear oil in my car and it sounds like shite. The clutch engages smooth at all speeds and all gears, but the tranny is loud as hell at idle. My question is, does a heavy(i mean heavy!!) gear oil like this make a difference in the noise a tranny would make at idle.

Were there any metal shavings on your drainplug when you drained the trans?

---I think you could get a bit different sound from a VERY heavy gear oil just as you would notice the sound difference with different oils in your motor. As long as you filled the trans to the proper level and the answer to the above question is a no, i would say that you dont need to worry.

exactly what kind of sound are you getting?

i never used the shockproof gear oil but i wanna try. other than the noise, how is it? You do know that its twice as thick as what Nissan recommends, right? i wonder if its safe to use.

I recently installed a clutch as well in my nx and i have the redline shockproof gear oil. I have the loud noise you are talking about as well. It sounds like metal spinning, or at least thats how i would describe it and it probably stops when you engage the clutch...am i right?? I posted about this on the technical section and they are telling me its normal. I had the shockproof in before i changed my clutch and the noise wasnt there, so im guessing its the fact that the clutch is brand new, and im sure the sound will go away eventually. Or at least i hope it does, its kinda annoying at idle. Hope this helps.

I'm keeping an eye on this thread. A new ClutchNet 6-puck and 3.5 quarts of Redline Heavy Shockproof are going in my SE-R tonight (Friday).

I'll post up whether 'the sound' makes an appearance for me, over the weekend.

Mike Kojima *highly* suggested the Redline Heavy Shockproof to me, for a turbo car like mine, so unless the noise is the nastiest metal-on-metal sound I've ever heard, it will be staying in my tranny.

Definately keep us posted Greg. Im curious to know how "normal" this noise is. It completely stops once the clutch is engaged though and my car has never shifted better. But when i first heard the noise, it was disturbingly loud. Louder then my engine at idle.....Thanks...John.

That doesn't sound like the tranny. That sounds like a bad throw out bearing.

I was thinking the same thing, except the throwout bearing is brand new from the key value clutch kit from www.nissan-accessories.com I went with there pressure plate and the b15 clutch disk and there throwout bearing of course. So, im stumped.

i have the exact same noise , but i think it's the 6 puck that chatters that loud, cause i just replaced the act ss disc with the clutch net 6puck and i use redline mt-90 and i never had this noise b4with the ss disc

I have Shockproof Heavy without a 6 puck and I have no abnormal noise. The shockproof is very "Heavy" and takes a long time to pour in the tranny.

Well, here's a little update for you folks watching this thread. NismoNX2000's car just went kaput and was towed to mi casa.

Symptoms: the car jolted and the revs started rising with no increase in speed while cruising on the highway. The clutch pedal was very heavy. It did not pop out of 5th. While the engine was running, he said he could not shift between gears, but he could with the engine off. He also said previous to this, that whining noise had gotten louder. However, after this incident the noise went away.

Diagnosis: sounds to me like its a bad t/o bearing although i did replace it with a brand new one when we did the clutch.

Oh, and just for reference, I have Shockproof oil in my car and I don't have any strange whiny noises. I put it in 6,000 miles ago with my new clutch and have seen nothing but improved shifting :)

Okay, guys. I just drove 350 miles back from Nashville with the Redline Heavy Shockproof in my tranny. No sounds at all. Nothing.

Even Eric96ser drove the car and listened for the 'sound', but didnt' hear anything either.

FWIW.

Redline makes good stuff, but I prefer Amsoil. I'm a recent convert to their stuff and it works!

I have the Redline shockproof gear oil in my race car. I am running the JWT PP and the Sentra 2000 clutch. I wanted the softest clutch I could find since I broke my previous two trannys with the Xtreme PP from ACT.

I have no noises at all. Shifting is stiff when the tranny is cold, but when warm it becomes very good. It could be either the 6 puck clutch, or a poorly installed throw out bearing that are causing the noise.

Well, just FYI....gear oil had nothing to do with NismoNx2000's funny noises.

Yesterday we had a chance to pull it all apart. What a wonderful thing to come back to after chillin on Florida beaches just a few hours beforehand :p

Pulled the tranny off as well as the pressure plate. The clutch disc exploded. The center hub, springs, and various metal pieces had scattered about in between the pressure plate and flywheel. Oy!! This was a 2000 Sentra SE disc.

Anywho, after much "discussion" with the local Nissan dealer, Courtesy(where we got it from), and 1-800-NISSAN1, we have a new disc free of charge. They made John yap about the clearly defective disc before they gave in and "out of their own good will" gave us a new disc.

Ah well...live and learn!

Well the noise is slowly going away, it think it was the new 6-puck breaking in. We will see..............

Yep well, mine broke in alright, a little too much. Completely shattered just like chris (nismoser) was saying. Does anyone know what could have caused this?? I was extremely easy on the car....was it just a defective piece? Oh yeah, and if you ever go to nissan to replace a part that they sold you, hold on for a ride that will take you to one frustrating person after another telling you that you have to bring you car to them. Ridiculous service.

I had this happen in my other car and I was told that a bad pilot bushing/bearing could cause this. I don't see how nor fully understand how that would be the case but you can take it for what it is worth.

I would like to hope/think that my input shaft on the tranny is not just wobbling around if the pilot bushin/bearing goes out.

That noise is not from the gear oil It is either the t/o baring
or the 6-puck dics I got a 4 puck dics with spring in it,and my
shit chatters like a bitch,I think its mainly the disc.I just got
a new ACT PP and a kevlar disc I will use the same gear oil as
yall and let ya know how it went down.
