: Avenir swap; hesitation...

I am pretty much 95% done with my friends Avenir swap. I slapped a fresh T25 kit on the car, new plugs, wires, dizzy, cap, rotor, TPS, maf, and some good injectors.

I started the car and let it idle and took it for a spin. The car does build boost but feels like its running a little rough. Has some hesitation and stumbling issues. TPS is set to .45V. I have the stock maf tighten on properly as well as regrounded. The Greddy Type-RS is recirculated. I checked for leaky injectors and all are good. Has stock fuel pump and FPR. Only running stock boost for right now on the T25. Spark plugs are BKR7E at .035'' gap. The one issue we have left with the car is we believe the oil filter housing o-rings are leaking because the car is pissing oil so I will be fixing that probably tomorrow. I did not set the timing with a light when I swapped over the dizzy but just placed it where 15* would be. I will be setting it properly once I get the light. The ECU is a calum daughterboard set for 370's/stock maf/3bar. It is not throwing any codes at all. Not sure what else I should try out. I was thinking of trying another set of plug wires since the ones that were on the fresh set had the inside peice stick the plug (the piece that conducts the electric). Possibly one has no contact and is not firing a plug? The car sounds almost like boxer motor which makes me think a cylinder is not firing. I tapped the top of the injector caps light just in case one of them may be stuck.

Sorry for the long story. Just trying to explain what I went about doing. This motor was hurt since the day we got it but Tiger Japanese said the warrantee was over so we got screwed. Motor had bad injectors, turbo, fuel rail, and lots of other crap. If you have anything to suggest, I would appreciate it. Thanks!:biggthump

Make sure each plus is firing(spark). Throw a timing light on there(no guessing) and also bring the gap down to .28-.30

Best of luck,

The Calum ECU is going to Hesitate a bit for a while until it learns the car. Matter fact ANY ECU is going to hesitate after you take it out and put it back in until it learns the car. I took my ECU out and put another stock ECU in to send mine to calum. The other stock ECU I put in had to learn the car for about a week before the hesitation went away. If its hesitating in the upper RPMS its probably because its running richer then shit. It shouldnt sound like a boxer motor though obviously. That could be a million things though.

Well, I will have to fix the huge oil leak and take it from there. Hopefully everything works its way out because the car has driven me up the wall. Issue after issue after issue. I hope to god I can get it all settled tomorrow.

definitly check the spark plug gaps and for spark

I'll double everything in the morning. I was assuming the .035 gap would be fine on 7psi. I remember I ran that size gap up to 10psi with no issues even with a TMIC. Ahh, I just hope swapping the o-rings in the oil filter housing is not too tough.

i donno i am running a fully built sr20det and my motor doesnt like anything past .28 at 8.5psi.. right now im running .30 and i get som hessy but i am going to drop them back down to get it all right

that seems like a awfully large gap to be running without any kinda msd or some kinda ignition or i missed where you said you had one?

Nope, totally stock ignition. Are you running the T25 though? I know of a couple of people who have ran .035 on a T25 @ 7psi with no issues. I remember I would blow the spark out above 10psi.

i would lower the gap to .28...then check if each cylinder is firing, pull plug wire one at a time...

x6 on dropping the gap to .28,what o2 sensor/ect are u using?since u have a oil leak i would fix that first..if its the oil filter housing o-rings leaking u should remove the pass side mount and drop her on an angle.its very tight in that area but a lift helps.strangely my jet ecu has been thru 3 cars and she fires right up correctly w/out the learning issue..also make sure the car reaches *180 before driving her around.swap out those wires or test them for resistance like the fsm states:tongue:---be sure to pressure test the pipes one more time before starting her up again:)

Thanks for the advice T. I will try out the things you guys said. Hopefully if I remove that mount I can have a little motor room to work. Well, I am on my way to try and wrap this up once and for all. Thanks fellas.
