I have a p10 primera fitted with acomplete VE with sr16cams & springs head shaved 0.7mm revcut set at 7800. after running around the track i noticed some loss in power so i pitted in. engine wouldnt idle after looking around we took off the valve cover to discover a shim not in place. hit the revlimiter some times but dont know if that is an issue for VE valvetrain. the thing is that after putting the valve shim back we started the engine and another one flew off in idle.
What is happening?' any info please
could thid be because of valve float or clearnace issues
and any idea what is the clearnce between cam and rocker for the VE engine

THX A LOT

take the cams out and tap on each shim to make sure there seated right in the retainer. Also check the retainer to see if they are damaged. Next get some valve springs to keep it safe or lower the revlimiter to 7500. I had a shim pop out of my VE before not sure why it happened but my revlimit was set at 8k on stock springs. Some people get lucky and never have to deal with that problem.

Yeah I was on Stock cams the 1st time. Then on SR16 cams the 2nd time. The 1st time it happened I was just driving and the car stalled out and when I started it up it started to make the tapping sound.

same thing happened the second time a shim flew off while in idle, one retainer damaged but the shim flying off the second time was from another valve. Does putting stiffer valve springs solve this problem??
the engine runs great and has good power but im looking for some reliability is this something that hapens a lot??
is it a consequence of hitting the revlimiter to hard or could it be valve float that takes the shims out of place??

thx

Are the shims popping out on the exhaust side?

Check your valve lash, the intake should be .006"-.008".
