: Whistle at 4krpm / WOT...
ricecube77 07-20-2002, 12:18 AM I hear an audible (but cool souunding) whistle when im WOT and above 4k rpm, all the way to 7.5 redline. The whistle isn't extremely loud, but audible by other drivers (my friend also heard it)
Could it just be whistle by the wind in my airbox? (i have k/n drop in filter)
Was thinking maybe its just my timing chain tensioner that needs to be changed?
No idea. =\ (It also only happens when im in gear, if im in neutral and rev it, nothing.) Maybe something with my transmission assembly? Clutch or something.....? Flywheel was resurfaced not too long ago, maybe something went wrong.......

sr20ser 07-20-2002, 12:27 AM Air leak. Check your MAF -to- airbox seal. The O-Ring may have bound up, or a conection is not tight.
ricecube77 07-20-2002, 02:28 PM i'll get right on it, thanks!
Look for holes in your exhaust and a frayed flexpipe.
It may not be your problem, but it happens often enough.
95se-R 07-20-2002, 05:31 PM i have the same thing, but mine sounds like a turbo spooling up around 5k in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gears.:)
Peanuthead 07-20-2002, 08:35 PM I have it also. Some people have thought that I have a turbo mine is so loud. But mine is the AIV valve. I personally like the sound.
frkpwr 07-21-2002, 11:43 PM My car does the same thing. I just haven't gotten around to diagnosing it. . . I figured it was an intake leak, but I may be building a CAI so I may see if that fixes it. . . If any of you diagnose yours, let me know.

JimmyNX2000 07-22-2002, 12:01 AM i have this same exact noise. i can hear it from the inside of my NX when i punch it and am above 4k rpm's. though, i have the Ghetto Airbox mod. so thats what i figured is making it do that. am i right? or do i need to get under the hood of my car again too?:( i guess help on this one?
ricecube77 07-22-2002, 12:26 AM yep
intake leak.
i like it, im leavin it :P thx for replies guys!
eliterit 07-22-2002, 01:47 AM same whistle here . my friends seemed to be stunned by it. sounds kinda cool
808se-r 07-22-2002, 04:51 AM i'm getting the same sounds and I have a MAF adapter/filter... if it is an intake leak, why would it make the sound in gear but not revving in neutral?
it's loud enough that people in the stands could hear it while I made passes at the track...
lance 07-22-2002, 07:03 AM Mine used to do that and it was the chain tensioner- problem solved.

I had over tightened my chain when I changed my cam gears. It's more of a supercharger sound.
I have the whistle sound also but it's over 5k. I just assumed it was the POP charger.

I have the whistle sound also but it's over 5k. More of a sucking sound actually. I just assumed it was the POP charger.
Toolapcfan 07-22-2002, 03:45 PM MY XE has always done that in higher RPM's. Then I got a new noise when I put my homemade CAI in, a whistle when it's idling. Neither bother me.
my 91 nx2k whistles too! Maybe something to do with the exhaust. When I first got the car it was more of a pssshhhhh... like turbo. After I got my new exhaust it's just a faint whistle now.
Daniel2145 06-28-2003, 11:55 AM i had the same problem, then i fixed my grounds on my radio, my speakers were hooked up backwards so the it sounded like a whistle........or a small turbo
sentrasel99 06-28-2003, 10:36 PM The WHISTLE noise is air leak..
CHECK YOUR IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE SCREW.. sometimes it gets up to high and air excapes through the screw threads.. TRY SCREWING IT DOWN A TURN and see if that helps..
Also see if anything is blocking the path of the air from the FILTER to the THROTTLE BODY.
most likely its just the IACV screw too high
AaroNX 06-29-2003, 01:57 PM MIne does the same thing as well. Doesn't bother me though.
