: my new ACT clutch disk is soaked

First of all, I have a brand new ACT extreme pressure plate, ACT HDSS, and JGY lightweight flywheel, OEM throwout bearing, everything brand new only 2k miles. This is on a B14 with B13 tranny, T28 turbo at 15lbs, looking to get GT2871r once I get the clutch fixed.

I've been having problems with my new clutch setup slipping, so I replaced the clutch cable, broken in some more, and did another WOT and it slipped worse. So my father and I took the tranny out and saw that the rear main seal was leaking and parts of the bell housing was splattered with oil. The lightweight flywheel and the ACT pressure plate also had some blue spots. The clutch disk was mostly soaked with oil because when I ran a cloth on the surface it picked up some black wet soot. I resurfaced the flywheel and pressure plate with some fine sand paper to get rid of the blue spots and seemed like it took most of it off; im assuming the pressure plate and flywheel should be still good?? I know I need to replace the clutch disk though. This time im thinking of going with ACT 6 puck clutch. Now, do you guys recommend a sprung or unsprung/solid ACT 6 puck clutch? Also, do you think I can just reuse the pressure plate and flywheel since it only has 2k miles on it? Last resort, I can run over to the dealership and get a B15 clutch disk, but I dont know how that will hold up to 350 ft*lbs. of torque. I will be mostly driving on the highway so the harsh engagement I keep hearing about the ACT 6 puck clutchs should be ok. Lastly, I understand that the 6 puck clutch does not need to be broken in?

your help would be much appreciated.

Take the flywheel to a macine shop and have it properly resurfaced or it will most likely slip again. i would say get a new disc for sure, get a sprung disc if you are going to drive it on the street all an unsprung disc will do is engauge harshly and most likely break engine/ trans mounts and or the trans. make sure you clean up the pressure plate very well also. I usually use brake clean and some fine sand paper like an emory cloth, and scuff it up a bit with that. You could also see if the macine shop could resurface the pressure plate as well. I dont remember if they can do those also.

It should be around 40-$80.00 tops for resurfacing the flywheel. If you have the new clutch disc you can take that along as well and have them put a step in the flywheel so the clutch will engauge alot more smoothly, and not chatter so much.

try the yellow pages. In nashville here there is a place that will rebuild clutches. They reserfaced the pp the fw and rebuilt my disk for 75 bucks. if your going for another disk I have the ACT 6 puck sprung. Get the one with yellow springs it's an ACT in house disk with a beafy center section.

Mine is about half a year old. and it does have the yellow springs. I was going through competition cluch center sections every other month till I finally said F**k it. Researched that most sprung clutches use the oem center section. But ACT got tired of warenting the crap out of them and decided to build center sections in house. This is where the yellow spring center sections come from. I think I got my disk for 115$ It saved money in the long run compared to the 70$ CC disks.

oh i wasn't offering to sell mine it's staying in the car. just letting you know what my prefrence is on sprung clutch disks.

I'm running the ACT xtreme unsprung. The engagement is NOT as harsh as they say it is. I actually love the clutch and do not plan on upgrading until I am pushing it past its limits. The clutch went in last summer around august, motor blew in october, swapped it onto a JDM DE. Beat the piss out of it for the next couple months till I boosted that DE with a t25 kit in april and threw as much boost as I could at it. The clutch never gave me any issues. Only time I had an issue was when I had the cable too tight and it was slip a little but I loosened the cable and all is fine up to 20psi.:D

I say go for the unsprung 6 puck and re-use the flywheel and pressure plate. Just make sure there is no grease or oil on the pressure plate or flywheel. Good luck bro!:biggthump
