: Woofers and Amp question
Mr. Bojangles 07-20-2002, 11:10 PM First things first... my budget is limited... *sigh* with that out of the way, If i was getting two 12"s with 300 watts RMS and 900 watt power peak, what kind of dual channel watts amp would i want??? thanks for help
on a side note i was down at RC willey checkin speakers and shit out and there was this kid with bright hair acting all like he knew shit about speakers while his mommy bought it all for him... he was like wow... an amp for ONLY 499 dollars? thats like my whole budget right there.... so damn you rich boys! damn you and your rich mothers!!
Texasbangerz 07-21-2002, 06:10 AM first off what is your budget, what kind of car do you drive, what type of music do you listen to, have you figured in the cost for the wiring, will you install it yourself.....?
Mr. Bojangles 07-22-2002, 02:42 AM Techno... i could do wiring myself... have people to help install...
Texasbangerz 07-22-2002, 04:56 AM ok, i'll asume you have a $500 budget and currently driving a se-r
online:look for scala1 on ebay:
JBL1200=approx $270 (power to spare incase you decide to upgrade in the future) being that it is a class D monoamp it can only be used for subs.
Class A amps can be used for both subs and mid/highs, crossfire is one of the best bangs for the buck right now...
try to get an amp with a built in crossover, it'll save you money...unless you're really set on getting something with a 24 or 18db octave slope ...
JL10W3=???
Adire audio Shiva 12"=approx $110 for 1, by mail order, the owner of the company is a great guy...
or you could just get 1 very high quality sub with high power handling, trust me 1 sub with 500 watts will sound the same as a PAIR with 500 watts....but more than likely it wont be as efficient and will take more power to get it going...
wiring: buy welding cable from a welding supply house as long as it has a high strand count, dont waste your money buying namebrand "audiophile" grade wires, its just marketing....
--------------------------------------------------
my current system consist of
1: Usamps USA400 @ 1200-1400 watts
2: JL15W3
1:Helix hxa400@100x4@4 ohms
2:CDT PX6.5's
2:Bostwick 6.5's (junk)
1: Audiocontrol EQX with sub out, high out, full range out, inverted sub out.
it all depends on your budget....
MauiBlueGride 07-22-2002, 08:04 AM Check out crutchfield - the clarion dpx100.2, its almost at what employee price is (if you work at clarion) - its cheap, $249 I think for 1000w digital power...
Stay away from cheap brands you get what you pay for...
Als remember, you'll need a decent amp kit, 4ga with an amp like the JBL or clarion, there is $60+
Then you'll need a box for the 1 or 2 12" subs you have, thats money there too... I normall build my own, a 4x8 sheet of MDF is like $20 here, get some wood glue and screws and your good to go.... If you seal with silly-cone wait a day before installing the subs to let the fumes escape - they say they can eat the rubber surrounds...
My personal suggestion would be to upgrade and amplify at least the front speakers - makes a huge difference, I just installed a 5 channel amp and a small 8" sub in my NX this weekend while amplifying the front and rear speakers - sounds great....
All depends on what your going for, the boom factor or the sounds good factor lol.

geeio 07-22-2002, 12:27 PM get an audio bahn dual voic coil speaker and a 150X2 sony amp and a box that should keep you under 500 and give you great bass speaker 200 amp 200 and the box 50, 60 bucks wire get monster cable thats all that i use and its not that expensive
Toolapcfan 07-22-2002, 02:40 PM I guess I should check out a crutchfield sometime. They were always way higher than local places, maybe they've come down since then. Last time I checked, large gauge wire was pretty cheap at www.partsexpress.com and it's the high strand count stuff. I haven't ever been able to find high strand count at electrical supply places but never checked welding supply places.
geeio 07-22-2002, 04:11 PM dont buy at crutch field just use them to see whats out there then buy localy
MauiBlueGride 07-22-2002, 05:02 PM Crutchfield normally is high.... In the case of the amp though, I'm sure they bought out clarion's remaining stock at a killer discount...
Also remember when buying locally and more importantly online there are very very few "authorized" online dealers, and some actual brick & mortar stores that aren't authorzied dealers.... Whats this mean to you? No factory warranty.... Crutchfield is authorized by all the manufacturers it sells FYI....
