: what rpm to launch at on the strip
nxgoody2000 07-21-2002, 03:07 AM hey guys, i wanted to know if you guys can give me some advice on drag racing lauching, when my car was n/a, i launched around 3k to 4k off the line, without that much tire spin. but since i went turbo, i seem to have trouble on finding the right rpm to launch with. i m boosting 10 pounds right now, can anyone give me some advice on what rpm is the best to launch at and if i should feather my gas pedal when i'm launching.
james vick 07-21-2002, 09:56 AM If your runnin on street tires or even drag radials the car is gonna be pretty hard to launch. You may have to step up and just get some slicks and pray for your tranny and clutch:(
Rockwood 07-21-2002, 11:55 PM launch right below where boost hits in 1st gear dont floor it right away though, just hang the revs there until the tires stop spinning, then punch it
ITR_KILLR 07-22-2002, 12:27 AM I've got BFG g-force drags. i launch at about 4700, feather it till they quit spinnin and then floor it.
Loe Lyf 07-22-2002, 12:20 PM Blip the throttle repeatedly attempting to hit 0" of vaccuum so you can launch under boost.
sentraturbo 07-22-2002, 02:07 PM i also have had a problem with launching my car, before the accident of course... i almost lost to a civic with a LS motor... i launched it like you guys said, before boost (3k), but it dropped all the way to around 1k rpm... i have agx/gc setup for suspension, and regular toyo proxes for tires... i lost about four to five car lengths on the launch but i caught up and beat him by two car lengths...
Loe Lyf 07-22-2002, 05:34 PM That's why you should repeatedly blip the throttle to spool up the turbo so you launch under boost, not bog like you have done. It takes some practice but you can do it.
nxgoody2000 07-22-2002, 07:03 PM loe lfy want do you mean when you said blip the trottle, do you mean, rev it up a couple of times real high, so the turbo can start to spool, and let it go all the way down below the boosting point and slam the pedal around 2k-3k. explain a little more better please, thanks.

yeah... it was my first time launching the car as a TURBO... i only had driven the car about 100 miles when i raced the civic... and i was still sorta scared of torque steer... but as soon as i get my car fixed, i'll start practicing...
Loe Lyf 07-22-2002, 11:04 PM You know the sound that an engine makes when it hits the rev limiter, that BAH, BAH, BAH, BAH sound, do that but not that high of RPM. Do you notice when you rev up the car, the boost gauge jumps to 0" of vacuum? DO that repeatedly quickly and launch when ready. Tap, Tap, Tap, Tap, Tap of the throttle.
Hope that's a better explaination.
