what would it take to put the motor below in an SE-R? is that pretty much a clean swap and how hard would it be?

Very hard. You have to cut and weld all new motor mounts, new harness. Tranny wont align . Not worth the effort. Id go with a B series swap if i was you.

i see, what would you suggest exactly? im getting a cheap but clean SE-R with a blown motor and im looking for a good turbo motor swap to put in it, i can do the work but this is my first sentra, ive owned G20s and i thought they were pretty close to the same.

Im sorry, i was joking. That engine will bolt right into a B13. Swap a few sensors and your good to go. ALL of the info is available on this site if you search.

I may have misunderstood your question, but the engineers designed the engine to come out the bottom. When you search you'll find tediously long debates about which is better (to take one out the top or bottom), but the guys who do it for a living take 'em out the bottom - it's easier, therefore quicker, and time is money when you're wrenching for a living. If you can, find an FSM - actually there used to be and may still be a downloadable version on here, altho it seems to be not the same as the print one I have for my '93.

If you are doing that DET swap, slide the wiring harness through the firewall and drop it with the motor. Have both motors side by side and swap whatever you may need over to the DET from the DE. Bolt on the tranny and make it one nice big piece. Lower the car on top of the engine and slide the wiring harness back through the firewall. After doing it for the first time, it becomes very simple and you find new ways of doing it to save time.

In order to swap a DET in your B13, remember you will need things like ecu, fuel pump, fuel regulator, gauges to monitor everything, upgraded clutch, good gear oil, downpipe, etc. Read up on the turbo section and you will find everything you need.:biggthump

And BTW, I do NOT recommend buying a motor from them. My friend bought one from Tiger and it arrived. We didnt get really into it until a few days before the swap and found many things that were damaged. It came with LOTS of missing screws, blown turbo, damaged injectors, and so on. I would spend the extra cash and buy from a more reputable source or buy a Bluebird motor from them. The bluebird motors I have seen have been much cleaner than the Avenir. Notice the price for an identical motor.:eek2:

so who's a reputable source for motors then?? good luck with that for any motor unless it's a crate... Tiger has been the most reputable i've heard of and used. tiger ftmfw

The sad reason why every SE-R owner is going to Tiger is because they are so cheap. I know more than a few guys who have been long time members found their avenir's and some bluebirds full of sludge. I would much rather go to a warehouse and choose a motor like my brother and I did back when we picked up a few DE's and a DET. I guess if you live out somewhere far with no other places then Tiger would be a good way to go. If I were to buy another motor from them, MAKE SURE you pop that valve cover and oil pans and see the condition of the inside of the motor. I would make sure I didn't order the motor until I was ready for the swap and knew I would still be in the warranty period even if the motor was crap.
