: Unusual Suspension Recommendation

I found this on Sentra.Net in their Suspension FAQs. This may be for a B14 but I still thought the idea of using different brands of struts on the same car to be a strange suggestion.

Q: What is the best suspension setup I can get for under a thousand?
A: You should go with Sportline Springs all the way around (~$200). Then buy a pair of KYB AGX Adjustables for the rear (~$200). Use a rear mounting plate for the AGX's from Motivational Engineering (~$88). Then for the front, go with Motivational's shortened struts (~$470). Also get Koni bump stops all the way around (~$40). Total comes to ~$998.00, which is inexpensive for the quality ride you will have. You can get all these product directly from Motivational Engineering. I have considered doing the same thing but substitute coilovers for the springs. So I'd have GC coilovers, AGX rear, Motivational fronts, and CG camber plates.

As I am about to get the springs from the Spring Deal (hopefully), I was prepared to order AGXs all around. But Motivational makes struts for stock spring perches. But these springs are supposed to only drop the car 1" all around. While not counter balanced, is it worth it to consider Motis up front to gain more travel back even though I won't be dropped much???????

And who, if anyone, uses such a setup?

Personally, I would not mix the Koni and the AGX. They have a very, I mean very, different feel to them. My koni's feel nothing like all my friends AGX's. Now if you already have the agx's and want the shorter fronts get the Koni's but you may decide to upgrade the back latter. How much more would the Koni's for the rear cost over the AGX's?

$92 AGX
$235 Koni

That's each. Pretty big difference. With a 1 inch drop, the AGXs should be OK.

Tirerack sells the rear koni's for the b14 at $116 each. Not to much higher then the AGX's. Plus, if you ever go with coilovers GC sells a adapter for the rear that is cheap a really nice. No ugly spring seat in the back. Looks like a really nice setup. Thats what I have.

I am assuming that the B14 Konis will not fit on the B13.

No, but the Koni rear cost 130 from tire rack. If you look I bet you could find them cheaper. Is that $235 price the cost of the motivational koni rear?

Is there really that much cost difference between a strut (b13 rear) and a shock (b14 rear)? Wow, I didn't think the parts were that different.

Sorry. What I am comparing is the shortened Moti strut to the AGX. The suggestion was using shortened struts up front only with AGXs in back.

From the Moti web site:

Shortened Struts
These struts are manufactured by cutting down the original strut housings giving them more travel. This lessens the tendency of bottoming out and improves the ride quality tremendously. Shortened struts for standard lowering springs are $235 each for Sentra and 200SX. Shortened struts with threaded bodies are $335 each for Sentra and 200SX. Pictured are Motivational struts compared to a stock-length strut on the right. No Core charge on Sentra and 200SX.

Did someone actually try this setup on their car?

It would seem that the AGX and Konis are too different in terms of compression and rebound.
