I am going to go turbo but kinda need to do it on a budget. First of I was curious will this combo get me around 225whp if I have the S3's and a thicker head gasket? If I need to replace my head gasket now but it might be up to 2-3 months before I can get all of these parts/money together, can I replace my gasket to a thicker one now and not do damage to my engine? Also My car has 107K and runs great besides the recent head gasket problem. Will my engine be able to last at least 1-2 years on this setup? Or can I expect to blow it up soon? Does the JWT have to be uhttp://se-r.net/car_info/project_cars/matt_dehaven/parts.htmlsed right away in order for this bolt on turbo to work?

A thicker head gasket will lower the compression, so it'll probably be a litttle slower before the turbo, but it won't hurt it. The cams might pose a problem because of the overlap, but it should be ok. Just remember, make sure there's enough fuel and you should be ok.

there are a few guys running S3's straight up with no reduction of overlap and they seem to be doing fine. I did get the cam gears and reduced the overlap. I think it's more crucial to do that if you run a small turbo (t25) because they can create so much back pressure (which leads to reversion if you have overlap). With a bigger turbo which creates less back pressure, the overlap isn't so much of an issue.

What about the ECU? I know ideally you have to have it but f I do a bolt on to my current SR20 will my car actually run or is the ECU an absolute must to even run the car? If I am just going to have a thicker head gasket with the S3's/pulleys/exhaust/downpipe/BOV and some other small tweaks is the T25 going to be ok or is the T28 going to work better. I want the boost to come on as quick as possible but I am sure a power junkie so I'm not sure what to go with.

I am running my DET with my DE ecu with very few problems. The car runs really rich (250 kms / tank of gas), idles rough and stalls sometimes because of the amount of fuel being dumped in by the 370cc injectors and the ecu thinking they are 250cc.

Other than that, the car pulls hard, and drives fine under normal driving circumstances.

You don't really need to do this, but if you really have you heart set on it you'll need cam gears because you'll throw off your cam timing by putting in a thicker gasket.
