I'm looking at a '93 SE-R with 102K, no 5th gear pop out, driver's door sags, door dings, carpet tears, small fold on hood corner near headlight, busted turn signal (possiby headlight housing as well I suspect) driver's fender needs work or replacement, bumper cover needs replaced. No mods. Has driver's airbag, A/C and sunroof. Asking $3K, I figure it's worth somewhere between $2K and $2500. Is that being fair? Also I'm not sure if I should hold out for something nicer or go with this one. I want a classic SE-R for the long term, probably do Avenir swap among numerous other mods in the future. Thing is it's the closest SE-R for sale in a long time, and it's still 5 hours away. I live in a classic vacuum. What do you all think? Thanks.

Unless you think it'll be a while before another one comes along, I'd wait. This one sounds rough. If you're set on buying it I'd offer no more than $1800. IMHO of course ;-)

i agree offer no more than around $1500 and believe me plan on spending atleast another $1500 just to get it preped for what you want for it. Please think hard before offering much more than the above.

Got another potential car. A '93 with 143K (ouch) with A/C, sunroof, and cruise. Don't know anything else at this point. $2450 OBO. I say $1800-$2000 tops if it's in decent shape. This one's 3 hours away.

does mileage matter if you are putting in a DET? That seems like a better car if it doesn't need a ton of body work.

If you don't swap the trans, it'll still have the milage. Every other possible component, from end link bushings to the stereo controls are going to have that mileage on them. I'd look for another car. My 93 se-r was $3k and it was/is perfect. And I still think I paid too much.

I wouldn't be doing the swap right away so I'd prefer the mileage to at least be average. Less likely to have crapped out suspension and bushings as well with lower miles.

Unless you like throwing away money, be patient. I also searched for a long time. There were several classics in the area, but all were beat to shit. Check the classifieds at sr20de.net, that's where I finally found mine... Veil White '91 w/ 55k miles in excellent condition. I won't tell you how long it took to find, but it was well worth the wait.

If you buy a car that need a lot of work/maintenance, there's no telling what else is wrong with the car until months down the line.

I know the desire, but can't stress enough... be patient and keep searching.

Later,
Mark

Dude,
All I gots to say is WAIT. In two years & all surrounding states, the only se-r for sale I found was a b14 (what I wanted) no classics or nx's, but I had a bike loan at the time. I wanted it sooooo bad but couldn't have it. Only three more payments left. So close yet so far away. I waited 9 more months, and finally I found a 95. I waited only 2 hours and she was mine. Paitence is the key.
