Okay, took a trip to my local nissan, asked if they dealt with nismo, yes, asked if they had LSD, yes, asked if they had them for FWD SR20, he says no. I'm thinking... damn. I said, got a catalogue? They say yes. We look through it. I remember the last few digits of the model no of the LSD i saw posted in here that I need. RS360. So we're looking through, I find it. There it is, right there in the catalogue, with ALL the info, inc pictures of the unit, dimensions, disc diagrams and so on.

This is a MECHANICAL LSD (not VLSD) for the non-lsd sr20 gearbox (gearbox part no RS5F32A) or something....

Here is some info I got off the page, they didnt have a photocopier :( It was kinda funky.. hehe, page 82 or 83 of the catalogue if I recall.

I'm quoted roughly $2,500 AUS dollars, DAMN, thats WAY more than the USD price I've seen, USD is like $900 yeh? That should be about $1750 Aus dollars. (tax, duty, etc?) hrmmmm

My nissan guy is going to see if he can get one, if he can, I'm going to order it. Its a shitttt load of money, but I badly need this and I dont think a factory VLSD box will cater for what I require (circuit).

I also looked at the nismo radiator cap, its 1.3bar... I bought a new 300zxTT cap, 1.2 bar, very close.... nismo cap was $88, 300zx cap was $28. (aus dollars) heh.

Cross my fingers that nismo can send the LSD over... (if they are still made, or in stock)

I also noticed other part numbers, ie RS361, 362, 363, etc... they looked like different plates or rings (from what i saw of the pictures) perhaps to adjust the lock rate, etc? ie 90% slip, 80% or... ? I could be wrong, could have just been replacement rings/disc's... hrmm

since as of this morning, the AU$ to Japanese Yen exchange rate is approximately 1 / 63.4, a 98000 yen LSD is sold RETAIL in Japan for ~ AUD1545.

I CANNOT imagine how they come up with a figure like ~AUD2500!!!

Taxes, shipping, no matter what will not bring it up to 2500...

I have the catalog through an ordering mistake. I meant the LSD...sometime

here's the bad news. After having my local nissan research availability, they say that NISMO says they no longer make the LSD and do not have any.

DAMNIT! I'm so upset! It was the ONLY decent option for a non-lsd casing. GRRR. Mechanical too.

I asked nissan to photocopy the page that lists the LSD but they didnt have a photocopier in the parts dept, slackers.

Anyway, I'm pretty upset now. The part exists, thats for sure, saw that catalogue clear as day with my own eyes, pictures, diagrams, the lot.

Yes the catalogue was japanese (couldnt read much except numbers, etc).

I don't know how they get a $2500 figure. We do pay taxes and duty and so on.. hrmm.

What now? I so badly require LSD. GRRR. I might just buy the $20,000 USD quaife 6-speed sequential dog box which has the quaife lsd unit in it? HAHAHA as if. $40k AUS.. nice one.

I've got a busted FWD LSD gearbox (not VLSD) with a functional LSD (cluster gears and 2nd gear are chipped).

I've experimented with putting the LSD unit into a non-lsd box, but the non-lsd casing couldn't accomodate it. I even tried rebuilding using the gears from the non-lsd box into the chipped lsd units.

To make a long story short, I've got a broken lsd box with a good lsd and casing. It bolts right up to an SR20DET. It's a cable operated clutch assembly, and it came off of a B13 Sentra (JDM).

One problem is I'm in Trinidad so shipping is gonna be a bitch. If you let me know the minimum parts you need, maybe I can get them to you cheaply. The LSD unit is a little heavy though, maybe 40-50 lbs.

I talked with Nissan motorsports in america and they said it was available. I highly suggest you give "brian" on the forum a PM and see if he can take care of it through Couertesy Nissan.

Not sure if you contacted me before, cause I did post in pulsar.org.au regarding the LSD sometime ago.

BTW, There is one shop here wanted to let go the SR18 LSD gearbox he contacted me last week, the only problem is the drive shaft, cause both the drive shaft is cut, and only left the inner one. you may need to fabricate the drive shaft "the left side". Also the delivery is not cheap, think this g.box weight about 50 to 60Kg.

as far as I know the Quaife dog-box does not come with the LSD (and ofcourse I believe that a AU$40K tranny is OUT OF THE QUESTION no matter how in love we may be with our cars).

Now as for your choices:

1. Quaiffe may not be out of the question entirely. There are 2-3 units floating around for sale in the US. I believe se-r.net member John Malapetsa has 1-2. Furhtermore, I believe a little down the road we may actually get a Quaiffe LSD. The Quaiffe UK needs an order of 25 to make them again. People from the States that investigated the situation said that if we could get 15 orders then Quaiffe USA would get the remaining 10 themselves and stock them. We are not anywhere close to 15 "orders" right now but within 6-12 months I believe a lot more people (from USA, AU and Europe) will have completed the "other" mods on their cars and will be looking for an LSD.

2. I strongly believe that Nismo mechanical units are available worldwide. Post here stated that Nismo USA has 2 available. I tend to think that there will be at least 5-10 more somewhere in Japna.

3. Try CUSCO. I KNOW they have 2 mechanical LSDs (1.5 and 2-way) for N15 SR18s. I have seen them on their catalog. They go for Yen 78-85.000.

For what it is worth, I heard he was out while on the se-r.net about 3 months ago.
Also, Kazz has a LSD designed for our cars and it should be available soon. Keep an eye on the website. It will go on special when it is released.

It's been done before. Seen it done right in front of my eyes. Some people say u can't do it but u can. U just need to know how to make it work.

I think the key is using the LSD case. From what I saw when I installed my Quaife it looks like all you need is the vsld and the LSD case that you remove when you install the LSD.

I plan on ordering one of these sometime. If someone else is purchasing a LSD unit also, or $300 or more other stuff, we could order togehter and save money, according to what Steve was told. Something to keep in mind for those interested
