: Breaking in the 100 shot

Hey ya'll,

I've got almost everything ready in my system except for the Walbro (sitting on it... haven't installed it yet). I want to break the system in and have done all preliminary checks before installation. I checked for leaks, made sure the arming switch does the right thing (which is, of course, making you eat the steering wheel if there's no juice hooked up!), and got everything mounted. I have 4 jets that I'm going to work in:

.037" - I'm guessing will giving me 55HP
.042" - I've lost! Dammit
.047" - not sure what it'll give me... is it safe to use without the Walbro?
.052" - for the 100HP shot. Definitely not going to use until I have the Walbro
.055" - I'm thinking about pushing it a little after I get used to the .052

Lemme know what you nitrous pros think.

Thanks,

From what I've *heard* of the JWT dry setup (very safe, btw), the fuel maps are based on the 100 shot jetting for nitrous oxide. So, putting in a smaller jet should make the thing run pig rich.

I may be wrong. Just speculating.

With non JWT setups, it's a safe bet to 'test-fire' the system into the air before actually arming it and using it with the engine running. I can't think of a way to do that with the JWT, as it's all ecu-controlled.

The good thing, though, is that the thing will either work or won't, and the ecu will take care of your fuel for you.

Pop in the Walbro (really, Jason. It's like a 1 hour job, tops.), pop in the 100 jet (maybe the .042 or .047, if you're really timid), and see what happens.

Good luck.

yeah, I test rigged it but I couldn't fire the solenoid. I can trigger it with a 9-volt battery but I couldn't with the nitrous against it. I guess it doesn't have enough current to open it with 900 pounds against it.

I'm guessing you test fired it with the switch. Do you think I could test fire mine directly to our battery or is that too much current?

You are 100% correct GP. I talked to Andreas and he told me a JWT dry shot set up is identical to a wet shot. Basically since you are increasing your injectors and fuel pump (100 shot program) the ECU compensates the fuel and makes your dry shot a wet shot. He also told me the best way to test is to start off with like a 80 shot to see how your fuel is and then 100 shot here you come.

Using a what I call old school nitrous set up is cool but it is amazing how the JWT ECU works. Plug and play. I am convinced that a JWT set up is the best way to go!!

Dude, what an easy upgrade! It really didn't take that long. All I had to do was mark one hose and I knew where the others went! Well, getting the two up top off was kinda tough (the ones for the fuel level indicator).

T-minus 8 hours.... I'll be spraying on the way to work tomorrow. I have the .047 in and some Accel cold copper plugs gapped at .020-something... should be pretty super!

Anyone know if it's okay to use my 5E-11 plugs just in case I can't get any 6Es right away?

Jason, do u have a Fuel pressure regulator????

Are u using the #16000 solenoid

You got the same nitrous setup i have and the same mod too.

Get ready to break into 12s with slicks

no, I don't have the regulator. I heard that my pressure is good with the Walbro and the 370cc injectors

you should definitely use at least the 6 series plugs, if not the 7's for safety. You can use the stock fuel pressure regulator that is fine. Also, you can test the system but just going WOT at idle, and hold the fogger nozzle away from you (this is fun). You will dumb a bunch of unburned fuel in to your cat though, so you may want to remove the catalytic converter first to prevent damage.

I don't recommend anyone using the JWT 100 shot on 91 octane pump gas. It's probably ok most of the time, but the cylinder pressures are right on the edge. One bad tank of gas, one spray that lasts to long, or to hot of a day, and you have the recipe for a blown motor. Trust me, I know from experience. After talking with Jim Wolf himself about this, even he recommends throwing in a little higher octane gasoline or at the very least some octane booster. good luck!

luckily, all we have for high-test around here is 93 so I believe that I'm good on the octane. If I shoot anything higher than 100-shot, I'm going to use VP racing fuels or some Sunoco 110.

I don't have a CAT, so I'll probably try your trick and go ahead and get some 6s.

Thanks for the info. This is becoming a good informative thread (for once... ).

Keep 'em coming!! :D
