: SR20DET confused.....
ScarCrow28 07-25-2002, 12:41 AM i couldn't really find the answer so i'll just ask it.
Does a SR20DET REQUIRE it to have a turbo or can it be N.A. if so what are the numbers compared to a DE?
Monsoon 07-25-2002, 01:08 AM the sr20det has to have a turbo, or it would be an sr20de. the "t" on the end stands for "turbo," which obviously you know what a turbo is.
the numbers for a sr20det range from 200-220hp, and the sr20de is 140hp.
hmm...just wondering about the internals of the det compared to the de.
can det pistons, cams, valve springs etc be swapped into the de? what's the difference in bore and stroke?
im wondering if the extra 60+ hp is from the stock turbo alone.
ihateloops 07-25-2002, 04:05 AM well, in some turbo engines, all those things can be swapped, such as the avenir and bluebird, but i do not believe they can be swapped around in a gti-r, so yes, the extra horsepower is from the turbo alone.
QUiKSR20 07-25-2002, 10:24 AM The extra power is from the turbo and nothing else. The DET
has lower compression pistons so if you were to take the
turbo off of a det and make it a DE it would be slower than
a regular DE.
ScarCrow28 07-25-2002, 11:47 AM ahhh, so you can't take a DE and make it a DET by slapping on a turbo. its configured for it right from the start.
i'm getting it now.
what rpms does the turbo kick in?
i notice my sisters Pissat 1.8T kick in at around 2 and one half. before that, the car is slow as hell
QUiKSR20 07-25-2002, 04:16 PM You can boost a DE .. You will make more power per psi on a DE
because of higher compression but a DET will take more PSI stock
for stock.. Either or will take alot of boost and LOVE BOOST.
Sunder 07-25-2002, 11:37 PM With these days tuning systems, you can safely run like 10:1 and still have 10-12 pounds of boost with stock internals. Start forging a few things and you can go even higher.
Hear of the Honda Civic running 12:1 and 30 pounds boost? No NOS, and she's running 530 Kilowatt (nearly 700 horse) at the flywheel. That's racing fuel though.
Monsoon 07-26-2002, 01:04 AM the turbo spools up at anywhere from 2500-2800rpms. it's a garret t25 (i know it's a t25, but i believe it's made by garret).
Benny Boy 07-26-2002, 01:23 AM I guess the 2 week periof for newbies just reading didn't help this one, huh? ;)
Ben
ScarCrow28 07-26-2002, 11:28 AM what the hell is that suppost to mean?
ihateloops 07-27-2002, 12:49 AM thats SUPPOSED to mean that you obviously didnt learn much in your two weeks of reading. you are still asking stupid newbie questions. dont pick fights with members on this forum, itll screw you over for ever.
Sunder 07-28-2002, 08:07 AM I heard today that the SR20DET has quad throttle bodies but the SR20DE doesn't.
Is that true?

well i'm sorry but fuck you.
i'm here to learn. and if it means i half to ask novice questions then so be it. i never signed no you must only read and not post for two weeks contract. so don't feed me your bullshit. if you did notice in my first post i did point out that i could not find the answer. and i'm not afraid to ask to get it.
i'm sorry you have to be such a jackass about it. i'm glad not everyone in this forum is so stuck up with them selves that they won't help and teach others. i really hope your not planning to be a teacher sometime in your life.

No need to get upset, some people just get tired of answering the same questions over and over again. All the information you asked can be found by doing a search of the forum. There is a nice button near the top of your screen for that.
As for the rest of us, there is no need to upset a new member of the community. We were all newbies once, and didn't know some of the things that are so "obvious" to us now. If you don't want to answer a newbie-type question again, then don't. You could have spent the same amount of keystrokes answering the question.

ScarCrow28 07-29-2002, 06:17 PM i thank you guys for helping me out and directing me to where and how i can find my answers. instead of scarcasticly insulting my ignorance.
