iirc you dont need new spindles for the front on a s14 all you need is hubs all around. i swapped my s13 coupe to 5 lug and i needed the whole front knuckle, hub and spindle.

but if you do have the spindle and its different which i highly doubt (someone correct me if im wrong) you do not need anything else.

;) good luck

are j-spec silvia's/ 180sx's 5 lug? whats the advantage to this swap?

all s13 silvia's and 240's had 4 lug along with base model 240s in the states dont know about lower models in jdm land.

only real advantage is more choise of rims. but also the weight of the car is distributed into smaller sections of the studs evenly so in essence its a tad stronger in a way. someone can probably explain it more than me.

so s14's and s15's and loaded 240's had 5 lug designs?

i figured that 5 lugs would in theory be a tad bit stronger. thanks for the answer by the way.

I was just answering the same question, is it worth changing to 5-lug.

I suppose a 5 lug setup could handle more torque, but mustangs had 4 lug wheels for a really long time.

I would say that going to 5 lug makes it easier to swap to 300ZX brakes as well as allowing you to use stock SE wheels which beautifully clear 300ZX brakes front and rear.

All you would need is the rear hub and the front hub. Very simple...OH, and rotors to go with them. Calipers are not necessary.

this is the only reason i went with 5 lug. :( damn 17's didnt clear the caliper. I was eventually going to go with 5 llug down the line just for choices of rims but not this early. and as Importnut stated the s14 wheels do clear the ever so nice z32 brakes

DO YOU KNOW IF I CAN USE PARTS FROM A 1987 300ZX TO DO THE CONVERSION

No. You cannot.

The spindles, etc are different by a longshot.

Welcome to 2005 btw!

do you know where i could find a turbo motor for that year and the conversion for the 240sx

I think the main reason people switch to 5-lug is that there are many more 5 lug wheels that have a proper offest for the 240sx. Most 4 lug wheels are in honda/fwd friendly offsets and really look crappy on 240's.

This might be a very stupid question, the S14 chases SE and base is the same, so if i did 5 lug conversion i would be able to fit 245/40/17 rim with those tires right? because on 4 lug no such thing.

ok, on the s13, would you need the new spindle in order to do the z32 break upgrade? or will they mount to the stock s13 spindle? ive seen a couple kits for the z32 breaks for the s13 and it only has the 5 lug conversion for the rear, but still offers the break caliper for the front.

xsanity was right about the studs being stronger when you proportion the tq going to the wheels. less tq to each stud if you divide by 5 instead of 4. ive also heard it allows for a more evenly spread tq but im not sure how important that is.

5 lug spindles are also stronger than 4 lug spindles

no the base and the SE are differnt, SE's should all ( notice the should... ) have five lug, where as the base i am almost sure doesnt have 5 lug or else it wouldnt be the base ( base as in the bottom of the line...) and that tire should fit, just make sure you get a decent offset, least you look like a lowride with half the tire sticking out...

no, you should be able to bolt em up, the rotors will need to be redrilled for four lug, but its been done, just need the brake lines to hook up from car to caliper..

oh and as a warning, think about it before you do the backs... the fronts are cake.. but the back brakes makes our parking brake useless... Z parking brakes used some sort of drum brake inside of rotor ( correct me if i am wrong here i am pulling it from memory ) and the 240sx parking brake wont work with it..so you will need to use a line lock, or find some hack custom fab job to make the 240sx parking brake work with it...

i didnt realize the z32 brakes were like that. i knew some other brakes such as the brembo and such would need an extra brake to hold them with the parking break. alot of people will get the wheel wood thing. either way, i havent heard of it with the z32 but huh. so i take it, the rear z32 brakes mount right up to the 240 just like the front?

yup, as long as its five lug and you have the conversion line.. ( the lines are different and the e-brake is thats the only diffs.. ) or you get the rotors redrilled..

So from *** i understand if i bought a Base and did a 5 lug conversion, still would not be the same is buying an SE right? If that is so, then il HAVE to look for an SE, and how would i know its an SE, and just not a 5 lug conversion, cause prety soon im going to drive to look at this one s14.
