Hi there.

A friend of mine and our colleague advised me to ask Calum to re-tune my ECU.

I own 1993 Nissan Primera eGT, UK made, powered by 10:1 SR20DE lowport redtop engine, rated 150hp.
So far the car is running great (over 10 000 miles since I have it). Some minor upgrades were done - NGK IX spark plugs; serviced only with genuine parts (filters, brakes..); all liquids changed (used only expensive and proven brands - Motul 8100, Castrol Syntrax..) The engine is as close as it could be to the stock level after 50 000 miles on it.
After reading for so long in this forum I am finally getting some parts in order to increase a bit the hp. No boosting is planned.
Herewith attached are pictures of my ECU. Kindly ask you to advise if something could be done for it (I've already asked JWT and they don't guarantee any positive result).
Please note, that my fuel cut is at 7 500 rpm (as far as I know). Red line starts from 7 500 rpm and goes to 9 000 rpm.

Thank you all very much in advance.

Hi Martin

I happen to own one of those ecus already. :)

Peel the sticker off the chip in the socket, and look for the marking 'M6M256'.

Thank you for your prompt response !
It will take me a while to do that as this is my everyday car and I am at work during daylight. Will do my best to support you with the needed info asap.
Anyway, I know it is early to say but still - what can I expect as a result of re-tunning it ?

Thanks.

Hey Calum,

It is time for me to go with your mod. I finally finished my set up.

As stated in my first thread, it is a lowport 10:1 UK made SR20DE, rated 150 hp. It has the 2.5" SSAC, JWT Pop-charger, JWT S3 cams. I am not mentioning the other stuff as I don't think it has anything to do with the ecu (flywheel, clutch...). As a result of the header install, I blocked the EGR valve. I am not planing to go further with any other parts. Maybe a 255 hp fuel pump and a FPR.

So I need your help. Should I ask you or should I ask anyone else - if I send you the ecu will you be able to install a *.bin matching the above mods?

Hi Martin,

Can you carefully lift the sticker on the socketed chip marked 'M1.9.2 T2'? And post whats written on the top of the chip under the sticker?

There are two variations of this type of ecu, one has a larger memory than the other. I can usually determine the memory type by the chip marking.

Calum do you have a Bin file from this ECU? ;)

I will do this on Saturday and I will post the numbers.

Thanks!

I don't know. Funny isn't it?

I own one of the red sticker bosch ecus like the link above (pn 23710 70J10), which is a euro high-port ecu (so like a 91-93 B13). The black sticker one in the pic next to it is like a 94 B13.

I just noticed Mika (link in the post above) has already done this (he's got one of your ecus). Your ecu is like the '94 B13 ecu, and I can work with that, but I've never worked with S3 cams.

JWT should be able to work with it as well btw.

jagy was telling me all the time do not go with the S3's and to choose the S4's.. I never got his point because my car is a daily driver, not a race car.. Now I understand his advises.. Unfortunatelly - kind of late for me to do anything. I already got the S3's and having in mind how hard is to get stuff when you are not in USA, I don't think I am ready to go for a change with S4 or whatever...

Anyway, I don't really feel nice right now..

Calum, as I wrote above, I will advise soon for the numbers you asked for. But I feel like I won't beneffit from that at all as you have never worked with S3's... And I thought I managed to complete a descent set of aftermarket parts..

Do you believe you can do smth after all?

martin: i think you are searching for a bin which will be pretty close to bin inside 'jimwolsomething' ecu for s3 btw:)

actually there are only bins from p11 ecus on that site. I will download bins from the red and black p10 ecu later. And i ll post there stock bin from jagys ecu as soon as he send it me. right?

I like the S3 cams. I like the S4s better, but the S3s are still a good cam.

I've got a board that will work in your ecu. I can set it up to idle better, raise the rev limiter, etc, but for best results you really need to tune it on a dyno. The S3s works pretty well with a stock ecu btw.

If your using calumsult to dump the bins for the P11 and the large memory type P10s make sure to switch it to 'OBD-II' size settings. Btw, for the small memory ecus its just the 'M6M256' that is important. It will say other stuff on the chip, but thats the name of the chip.

i dont plan to connect the p11 ecus, because my connector has been repinned. You have to do it yourself when you recieve the p11 ecu from me:)
About the p10 ecus, there is no M6M256, there is "M6M7256 IJ-I" on the red sticker ecu. Same like M6M7256 IJ-I jagy's n14 gti ecu.. Just notice

edit: now i downloaded bin from red ecu - using calumsult with the 'small rom' option. And from black ecu with 'large'. The red bin is exactly same like bin from jagys ecu. But the black bin i cant open. prolly needs diff .xdf. i gonna attach them to that site

btw thoose times few months ago when i was downloading p11 pins using calumsult, i prolly didnt use the "reset values to rom type" button and thats why the p11 bins are only 32bit and visible only by modified b14RT.xdf like you described.
another edit: i ve found old 64kb bin from p11 ecu. Everything is on that site now:)

Calum, do you think he can used *.bin from this setup:
JWT S4, 4-1 header, 55mm exhaust, HS CAI

info his car with mods:
JWT S3, SSAC 2.5", de-cat, JWT POP

... and tune it with AFPR on dyno?

... or buy Realtime?

... or try JWT? (i think ive never saw very good AFR with JWT ecu´s and price is higher than Realtime)

It appears that not much could be done in my case. And I think the problem is not the 10:1 engine and the S3 cams.
S3 cams are not making any trouble with the idle. I had a chance to deal with that already. Simply disconnected the TPS and set the idle to 1000 rpm. After that reconnect the TPS which idled the engine at about 900 rpm. That was about 50/100 rpm higher than it was before. Car sounds and runs great, especially after the brake in period.
I started thinking of doing something else. As I don't plan to use S4 cams anyway, I could get a SAFC-II and adjust it using WB.
I don't know, I am confused and after all it looks that only thing I might gain is the removed rev limiter which is not my goal.

Thanks a lot to everybody for the help. I will appreciate any further comments as I still have no clue which way to go.

It is Saturday and I took the ECU out to make the requested pictures.

So Calum, what is your final opinion? Do you think you will be able to work with this/my ECU - no matter basic or real time?

This is another ECU from 10:1 highport UK redtop SR20DE, also from P10 eGT. If I send you my ECU it will be together with this one. Actually, I am not sure but I might send you few ECUs...
