has anyone taken the screws of the top and removed the sensor part. I am getting one from a junkyard to self bore and I want to take out the sensor so I don't damage it if possible.

I did, I painted the housing part, and took off the actual sensor, no big deal, just a few screws, and it comes off, just dont drop it or anything :)

Thanks I did it today. I widened the opening so it will flow easier. I'm gonna paint it tommorro. I ordered an extra from a junk yard so I don't have to worry about any problems .$55

If you did what I think you did. you just ruined a MAF. if you open it to flow using a dremel( I dont meen by taking it apart I take mine apart to clean the wire with a swab and alcohol to get the K&N oil off of it) If you change the size of the hole though, you just messed with the computors ability to read an accurate airflow. It calculates from the small hole, by how much air is coming through. then because the diameter is or rather was known of the bigger hole it can tell how much air is coming through. so it will run lean with a bigger hole since it knows how much air would have been coming through with the old size hole.

Actually I really didn't change the size of the hole much if any because there wasn't alot of metal to shave off in the first place. I maybe removed a mm overall. I did open the mouth of the hole so that air will be less restricted getting into the hole. It had a straight through with a slight angle at the begining, I mearly increased the angle at the beginning so it's more even. I am going to high polish it tommorro and paint the out side black. This is an extra MAF I got from a junk yard so there will be nothing perment that can't be put back. I paid $55 shipped so I consider it an exceptable loss if my car doesn't run right. If I feel no increase at least I had no down time while I painted it. I have been doing alot of research and from what I have read and seen in sigs a little bore should't change much. I read that we run a little rich so if it leans it a little that's what I want. I also remember reading that andreas wrote that he has seen no real HP gain from doing this BUT he does it to ALL his cars. I really don't see the car running to lean from the slight bit I removed. the back end of the MAF was untouched. My intesions are more to increase velocity and throttle reponse while making my engine look pretty.

actually like I said above I really didn't bore out the hole I merly cleaned the opening so it was a little more funnel shaped. I looked at it today and after about a 1/2" it stays the same.

Storm88000 I dunno why you would want to do that... you would be an idiot if you do... that would ruin so much of yur car!! what a waste of time

If it's a waste of time, then it's my time to waste. The only idot is someone who wastes his time commenting where it's not asked for. but thanks for caring so much.
