I have plans to put 300zx TT pistons on det rods and this is supposed to make the compression about 9.0:1. First question has anyone done this and will the stock sleeves handle boost with this slight over bore. The Stock bore as everone knows is 86mm and the 300zx pistons are 87mm. Its only boring it one mm over stock but i'm just wondering how the block and sleeves will habdle it. Also what will this make my displacement. the only reason i'm considering this is because these pistons cost just as much as GTI-R pistons but i'll spool a little faster and with the higher compression. What do you guys think.
Also i'm gonna buy my friend rods out of his RWD det and i just wanted to make sure it doesn't matter between FWD and RWD rods in a det.

I have VG30DETT pistons, everything's great. 9:1 is correct, I ran 16 psi every day for about 6 mos. and 19psi on race fuel a few times... If you need a rebuild, it's a nice cheap way to go, something like $35 per piston with rings... I developed a head gasket stress fracture around the time reformulated winter gas came around and stupid me didn't have ANY working guages other than a boost guage.... so with the Grex head gasket, compression works out to a nice 8.4:1 I think...

You will need to get the block bored using a torque plate... JWT has one. For the cost of it.. you might as well get some Wiseco's and be done with it. 86mm wiseco forged pistons will drop right in and will yield about 9.0:1 compression. The stock DE rods are identical to the BB and silvia DET rods. There's no reason to use DET rods. The GTI-R rods are a little beefier if you want to try and get some of those. I think people have made over 400whp on DE rods with no problems.. Just my $.02

The de rods vs the det rods are different. When we compared my de rods vs. my friends DET rods the det ones were slightly beefier.

where did you find 300zx tt pistons at with rings for $35. I can't even get them for near that price. But then again these are new maybe your talking used. Thanks

I drove down to the Nissan dealership... factory pistons aren't exspensive... maybe you were checking prices on forged pistons?

A torque plate would be nice... the shop that did mine didn't use one, I'm sure it would've been better, but for what JWT charges, I'll trust some shop that maintains drag and nascar lite cars.

Can you tell me how they differ? I was under the impression that they were the same rods..

I believe they are 87.5mm

If you want to, get with BRC Performance. I got a set of CUSTOM made forged pistons for my 300zx project for $78 each.

I think i'm gonna go with Wiesco pistons and det rods. I might get the 87mm and just do it without the torque plate, anyone know what draw backs there are to not using one, anyone want to rent one too me?

Also det rods seem to be a little shorter and thicker when compared side by side with my de rods.

What were the side affects of not using a torque plate do you know?

You may want to check into it some more as far as the piston size. I know that somebody said the TT pistons will fit in the stock sr20det bore, and I'm pretty sure that the TT pistons are 87.5mm...not 87.00

You will pay more for shelf pistons from Wiseco than you would for custom pistons from BRC, and trust me...you WILL be happy with the quality of work from BRC!!!

They come with spiral locks if you use floating pins. The spiral locks are not easy to put in or take out, but they are the most reliable thing you can get. They will not come out on their own.
