Does anyone know why the VSLD was dropped in 98 for the SE-Rs? How much is an upgrade from just the standard open diff in a 98 to a performance one? Anyone have 1st hand experience with improvements over stock?

Thanks!

Best bet it was done to save cost. The trans cases are different, so you can't just drop a '91-'97 diff in. Supposedly, there is some sort of Nismo diff that drops in there, do a search for '98 LSD or something like that, but I have no experience with that. For autocrossing / roadracing, an LSD makes a HUGE difference. For drag racing / bad weather driving it makes a big difference. For street driving, little difference.

You can put a 91-97 trans on a '98, but one of the axles is different (not sure which one) so you'd need one of those too.

how does the 91-97 Tranny compare to the 98? I love the feel of that gearbox! What's the gearing difference between the two, is there a website that gives full gearing specs?

Nismo diff eh? I'll look into that. And yah, I know how much difference an LSD makes. After all, i drive a RWD truck with about a 65/35 weight bias w/ open diff :(

hey , best thing to do is get a 95-97 SE-R tranni, the only difference is the drivers side axle. Believe mi it made a huge difference being that 98-99 are non lsd, in corners, and taking off at street lights or the track!

the Phantom Grip is "supposed" to drop right in..and be just as good as the factory viscous limited slip if not better, from what I hear..
