Just out of curiosity: what kind of aftermarket stereos/setups do you guys have?

i'm not too sure on the model #'s of everything, but all this stuff is 3-4 years old at least, i have a ghetto kenwood cassette receiver krc-s305 or something like that, with a matching 6 disc changer... as far as speakers, i have polk components in front, with pioneer speakers in back, again the model #'s slip my mind... all those are driven off the headunit (i think its 45w x 4 peak) ... and then i have 2 10" jbl cheapo subs in a dual bandpass box powered by a pioneer (the specs/model escapes my mind) amp which basically occupies my whole trunk.. if u really want, i can probably take pictures of everything.. imho it sounds pretty decent, better than my dad's bose system in a '99 max....... although without the subs, the bass is really lacking (those damn 6.5S" speakers!)

Pioneer Premier DEH-P600
Rockford Fosgate 300 Watt Amp
4 Pioneer TS-A1665 3-way speakers
Rockford Fosgate HX2 12" Sub

My next goal is to replace all the Pioneer 6.5"s for components in front and 2 ways in the back...

so a 300watt amp will do for a 12" rockford?

Yeah... but on my setup, the amp runs ALL the speakers in the car...

oic... i was thinking of keeping my stock speakers, they are not that bad ... they just need more kick, so im looking at a new head unit (sony explod) an amp (rockford?) and a sub (rockford no doubt).

Any comments on this setup? I just want the bass in the car. 300watt should be ok for a 12" sub :)

Go ahead and keep the rear stock speakers, but replace the fronts with some quality speakers that have separate tweeters. If you already have the sub and amp, go ahead and install it. But it will be louder than your speakers that are being run by the head unit. Make sure that your head unit has a separate sub-output control so you can adjust it to match your inside speakers. But if you dont have the sub and amp, get yourself an eight inch powered bazooka and you'll be happy with that set up.

This sounds like a good idea.

I'm looking into this: http://www.circuitcity.com/ewebIMa/detail.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@1557203213.1028233061@ @@@&BV_EngineID=ccckadcflemlfkkcfngcfkmdffhdffk.0&catoid=-8871&bookmark=bookmark_4&oid=15870

Just a random question: what kind of amp will do for this bazooka?

Thanks in advance. :)

This is what I would do.

1 Headunit
2 Speakers F+R
3 Sub

I have a Sony Explode that has a built in crossover for the sub. I can electronically filter all the bass out of the main speakers. This really cleans up the sound. I would seriously consider some seperate tweeters for the fronts. My rears sound great but the fronts sound muddy due to the location. Also, mount the rears on top of the rear deck not in the stock location. Take a look at what the sound goes thru to reach you in the cabin and I am sure you will understand why. I painted the grills grey so they blend right in. I run a 10 inch MTX driven by a mono setup MTX amp. I custom made a box using Lightweight speaker wood that cost 2 times more but weighs 2-3 times less. I have enough for another box. One 10 was plenty for me. It will shake the car but I am not into that.

Trust me stock speaker suck. A headunit and some good speakers would sufice for most people. I have thought about selling my sub setup just becuase the headunit and good speakers sound really good. Of course if your into bass you need a sub.

The link didn't work. But there are powered bazookas, they have an internal amp. This will make the install extremely easy for you. I think this would be ideal for you, especially since you're not planning on running an amp for your interior speakers. Make sure you get a good head unit, i personally like Premier(high end Pioneer) decks. Good quality with 45W per channel, this will help you match a powered bazooka very nicely.:D

no i have polk speakers all around i think they are dbx someshit. ive been lazy and have the radio powering the rear have to find some inspiration to go tweak them and take out the blown r/f speaker for an exchange.

the stock speakers suck.

-MOMO 6.5" all around
-MOMO 1" tweets in the front doors
-Pioneer Premier 740 series headunit (strongly reccomended, lots of options)
-MTX amp, not sure of the rating right now
-2 Polk DX 8" subs in sealed boxes.

All of this is increadible! It's like I replicated my home theatre. The bass is perfect, and if it isn't, I can adjust it while sitting on my ass in the drivers seat. The highs are amazing, everything is crystal clear, I got them so I could hear the lyrics over my bass. Everything is perfect and I couldn't be happier with my set-up!

Panasonic DFX400u w/front.rear and sub outputs.
MTX 4" components (will be replaced soon)
Blaupunkt 6.5 rear speakers
10" Pioneer subwoofer with box
Profile 200SX 180w amp, driving the sub
Jensen XA4100 50 x4 driving the components and rear speaker

Look around and price the components that you are looking. I've gotten some great deals at www.crutchfield.com. For example;

Blaupunkt 6.5 rear speakers, orig $59, got them for $39 clearance.
Profile 200SX 180w amp, orig $89, got them for $62 clearance
Jensen XA4100 50 x4, orig $159, got them for $139 plus a got 2 Advent 10" subs for free. (Not enough RMS for me.)

Check it out, get prices and investigate.

I got the old school Pioneer Premier DEH-720 Its 45wx4 with millions of features I highly suggest these headunits plus the little organic el (dolphins swimming, indy cars etc...)
thing looks sweet as hell. Nowadays they come 50w per channel. Get some ok 60 dolla speakers for the rear and get some dope ass MB Quarts for the front or some Pioneer TS-A1661
those are 3-ways
