Anyone ever snap and repair the right side bolt that attaches the axle to the bearing? I snapped one of the three 12mm bolts that holds the bearing to the axle shaft. And will that cause the wheel to vibrate at highway speeds? Also our steering racks are a real PITA to replace. Worst than a clutch job! I now have a clunk when turning the wheel left I have to listen out for. Something isn't bolted down. WHAT A PITA!

Can you explain the location of the bolts in more detail? I've never seen them on my Classic.

If you're talking about the supprt bearing, don't worry about it. The 2 bolts will be enough.

Reoving that rack is going to require some major disassembly. Not a few hour job.

Yea, AFAIK DET guys only use two of those support bearing bolts. You are still n/a, so I don't think you'll have a problem Ian.

He did say driver's side, but there are no 12 mm bolts on the drivers side.

Tell me about it. My rack even though rebuilt has a clunk in it when I make right locks. It is inside the rack although the rebuilder insists that it is one of my steering wheel u joints. I got it from TheDriveshaft Shop.

He did say driver's side

I meant passenger side! :o

The three bolts on the bearing, not the support bearing. Also my dust shield on the bearing is loose and dangling on the shaft. Has anyone ever used RTV or something to hold it in place? The axle rebuilder told me it is not necessay and can be discarded if I want to. That doesn't sound right.

The shield is there to keep "most" of the road grime from eating the seal. I wouldn't get rid of it, try to fix it somehow. Mine was loose, but the axle was tapered so I just tapped it back down untill it had a good tight fit. No more problems.:)
