I have an odd problem with my A/C. While highway driving If I have it on the temp on my car starts rising after about 15 mins of driving but as soon as I turn the A/C off it goes back down. Anything under 15 minutes and it's fine but as soon as 15 minutes hits it start rising and gets pretty high.

I am wondering what could cause this. The air coming out seems to be cold although sometimes it does get a little warmer. I am not sure if this is normal or something is wrong. I checked the secondary fan and it's kicking on like it's supposed to. The only other thing I can think it might be which I have not checked yet is low coolant.

Is your condenser clear of debris? Sometimes you can get shit between the radiator and condenser. Just a thought.

one time i was driving from san antonio to austin about 80 miles and on my way back to san antonio through stop and go traffic for about an hour on the highway(DAMN texas road construction!) i noticed that my temp guage started rising past the center line, i quickly noticed this and immediately turned off my a/c and then the temp went down. so i had the a/c off while traffic was stop and go, but once i got going 70-80mph i decieded to turn the a/c back on because i thought the wind would cool the radiator and engine, but it actually didndt help and still the temp slowly climbed passed normal. Long story short, the next day it went away.

BTW for about a month now i've had a noise coming from one of my radiator fans for about 2 minutes after i start my car all the time. I guess its time for a new condensor or something , i think. i've just been putting it off.

Well mine comes and goes it is not consistent at all. I can drive it sometimes and it's fine then other times the temp just starts rising. I would think that if the condensor is bad that the A/C would not work at all.

My condensor is free of debris also. :(

It's called thermal runaway and it's not good.

The engine block starts to overheat from the large load (summer temps + A/C + stop-n-go or heavy foot;)), the engine starts to knock, the computer yanks the timing back to prevent denotation, the engine heats up even more due to the excessive timing retardation (more air, less fuel = lotsa heat), it starts to knock even more.... and the cycle continues until one of two things happen. 1) You notice it and reduce the load on the engine. 2) A rod obtains its freedom by punching a hole in the block.

Cheap solution: Make sure the car's full of oil and replace and top off your coolant (it probably needs it anyway).

Expensive solution: Do above and then buy a JWT ECU.

Well I wasn't traveling too fast. I was only doing about 70 at the time this is happening. It's not that hot out and I never had problems with my Civic when I had it doing this. I will probably take it in somewhere to get it looked at.

LOL. It wasn't my intention to insinuate that you were driving the car too hard. I was just teasing. No offense intended.

When was the last time the coolant was replaced? Are the coolant pipes in good condition? Don't spend a lot of money before you fix the cheap stuff.

I haven't checked the level yet I will do that a little later when I change the oil in it. But the coolant is like 10K old maybe I changed it when the motor blew.

I didn't mean to say that you were saying I was driving fast, you had mentioned that was or could be one of the causes so I figured I would let you know how fast I was going.

Have you replaced the thermostat? A bad Thermostat can elicit various different symptoms that sometimes dont seem thermostat-related.

It was replaced when I did the engine a few months ago. But if it is the Thermostat wouldn't that cause overheating without the A/C also?

From my experience, when a thermostat goes out, it *can* cause logic-defying problems.

But if you did it a few months ago, its probably not the problem.

i am having the exact same problem, with a/c on temp rises after about 10 min, as soon as you turn a/c off the temp goes down in like 1 min.

anyone fix this?

its hot here in perth like 35 degs, but i did it at nite time and still had the problem, whats worses is ive got a TMIC sr20det, but ive got a scoop... was doing 100 kph on the freeway and still had the problem.

sr20det has only been in for about 3 months...

why would it only start suddenly?
